stop blaming the company for your bad credit

Cant say I havent felt that way about a certain fraudulent scamming collection agency in my day....
If people are going to harrass, lie and try to threaten people into giving them money while hiding behind the outgoing calls only line of their agency they should expect to hear these things.

Is there a Thank-you card for harrassment?

Identity theft balloons?

White chocolates for slander, dark for libel?

A Fraud-o-gram?

I guess alcohol is always good for saying thank-you for trashing my credit - at least both parties get something out of it.

Nice post guest, I do agree with you. I get tired of hearing that we are not trying to pay our debts, that we use the laws for this purpose. We use the laws to protect ourselves and to be treated fairly by collectors. I had a call at work last week from one, he said he would call me later that night at home. He was nice on the first phone call. Well, I missed his call that night because I was taking care of my mother. He had a long sigh on the voice mail. I thought I would call him the next evening. He called me at work the following morning, after being told not to the previous day, and then the harassment starts. I just hung up on him. I called back, got their fax number, faxed in a DV letter with a part of not calling me at work. I sent it certified mail that afternoon. He calls and leaves messages every day on my cell phone. Guess who's getting reported to the FTC??? I almost have the original creditor paid off, will have next month. I've read about them on the internet and they have a bad rap anyway. It gets old. I guess they don't understand the word "harassment" anymore.

Well its true. Ive been screwed once by a collection agency, and had an attempt by the same agency 3 years later!!!

Youd think theyd have on file that I fight back and not to pull that crap on me a second time!
I pay my bills and I know what companies I do buisness with and I know which ones I dont. I certainly will not give anyone money that I dont owe, no matter how much they threaten me or screw with me credit.

Do we hand over our purse to anyone who says " gimme your purse!" "OK! heres my watch, its a nice one. Do you need change for the get away bus as well?" Pfft

The legislative history to the fdcpa cites the reason for passing this legislation: most people who do not pay cannot pay due to unemployment or illness (their own or that of a family member). Furthermore, abusive debt collection tactics only make matters worse by causing anxiety, stress, and strife in the home.

Those in debt do not hide behind these laws, but they are protected by them. As such, don't let a debt collector convince you that he/she can do whatever they want just because you owe the debt.

Thank you for this post, Texaslawyer. And you hit it on the head. People are protected by these laws, not hiding behind them. And you're right. It causes more stress and anxiety, which in turn can make you less than productive at work, and that can trigger a whole new set of problems.
