How do you STOP this?

Rt. 66 will not respond to a bankruptcy notice, because they are not in this country. The addresses they use in the US are just fronts - they are located in the UK.

Have you paid the principal of the loan in full and the interest allowed by your state's Payday Loan law? Go to your state's government website (usually www.michigan.gov - just put your state's name in there instead of michigan) and search on payday loans or payday loan law. Also, you will find a resource there to see if Rt. 66 is licensed to operate in your state. Chances are good that they are not. They do not appear to be licensed in any state in the US, and therefore, are lending illegally. They will threaten, yell, tell you you'll be arrested ,go to jail, have your paycheck garnished, etc. None of this is true. They will call you repeatedly at home and work to try and embarrass you into paying.

It all boils down to this: if you have paid the principal and the allowable interest in your state (if payday loans are even legal in your state), then you are done with this company. File a complaint against them with your state's Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau in your area. Talk to your bank and make sure any future debits from your account by this company are blocked, permanently.

Also, since you have registered with this site, a debt counselor will be contacting you to discuss your options - if you have already filed for bankruptcy, just let them know that, and that you don't require their services.

If you have retained an attorney for your bankruptcy give them the contact # for this company and ask them to send them letters and call them. You are paying these atty's to handle your bankruptcy, let them earn their keep

When you file a bankruptcy, you have Federal protection through the bankruptcy court. If they keep harassing you, the court can sanction them and place them in contempt of a court order. Doesn't matter that they are outside of this country... you are a US citizen!

Let your bankruptcy attorney know about this, and they can take appropriate action.

Debtcruncher is exactly right if they contact you more than three times they will be brought up before a bankruptcy judge. They have to follow the law in this country. All of these companies think they are above the law but they are not. KYSIDE38

I say let them contact you 4 times so they can be hauled into court--so they can be cited, fined and kicked back under the rocks they all came under! Just my 2 cents......

I stand corrected - I apologize if I provided any incorrect information above, but it's my distinct feeling that Rt. 66 won't much care if you file bankruptcy - they think they don't have to follow our laws. I'd love to see someone prove them wrong by having them charged with contempt of court!

On a personal note, although I am still receiving daily phone messages that are nothing but static (so I have no idea who it is, but I think it's probably Rt. 66), I have not received any further e-mails or phone calls. I think I've probably given them enough hassle and legal threats of my own that they've decided I'm not worth the trouble.

Thanks all - I really appreciate it. I can't say for certain that the messages I'm getting are or aren't from Rt. 66, but the messages are nothing but very loud static, and if I listen very carefully, I can barely make out a voice in there, but no words at all. I can only assume the messages might be from Rt. 66, but since I can't be sure, I'm not going to call them and find out.
