Ashley - from personal experience, I can only say that as a single parent, employed full time, with no ex nearby to take the kids from time to time so I can get a break, my late night worry sprees are spurred by lack of time to worry during the day!
My thoughts start taking on a life of their own at night, simply because that's the only time I have to allow them to do so, I guess!
I am working on trying to get more sleep - hopefully after the holidays, I will be able to. I have a new shipment of books from a book swap I participate in, so I can read at night to relax, and that knocks me out every time! Reading, a cup of hot herbal (decaf) tea, and some soft music. :D

Well this happens to me alot i write down all my financial needs ect ect. Bills and all that stuff. I put my bills important ones first in a shoe box. When i get stressed out or a bill collector calls i just go through the box and see the progress i am making. I also stay in contact with the collectors to let them know whats going on? I try not to make broken arrangements.

I struggled with this too...My junk is paid off, but I'm still suffering the effects of excessive worrying and stress...
The best thing I did for myself is come to the realization that at 1 a.m. there was not a whole lot I could do to fix the situation. I made the necessary arrangements to get my stuff paid..It was all I could do..
Not that it made it any easier to sleep..:) But it helped a little.

I guess I'm not quite there, Jessi - it was 2 am again this morning before I konked out! But I feel good today, took a vacation day to deal with Christmas prep, etc. (Well, the kids are sick too, so I guess I had a REASON for taking a day off!)

Thanks, Jessi - I'm working on it, but having a hard time following my own advice above...LOL. I'm sure things will be easier after the holidays. I'll just be glad to get through the holidays.

It will get better...Just focus on the progress you've made already! :)
And come here to vent when needed. :)

I too stay up late at night and seem to worry more at that time about my debts and finances. I agree with you that at that time of night after the hustle and bustle of the day is over and everyone is sleeping is when your mind seems to wonder more.
Whst keeps me goin is my 3 little girls asleep at that time. Starting back in may of 2003 is what made me realize that at any moment your loved ones could be taken from you.I n 2003 i got preganant with my 3rd lil one and had a very high risk pregnancy and was in and out of thehospital. That same year in May my lil girl who was then 6 was part of an attempted abduction.Thank God she knew to stay away from the car.The following year in September my oldes was struck by a truck in front of my home and was seriously injured and taken by helicopter to Childrens Hospital.
This is what keeps me going, no matter what financial problems i may have, my children can never be replaced.I feel that i got through all of that and i can surely get through my debt problems.
Merry Chritmas to all of you! May you and your families be blessed in the new year!!

Ya know - I sleep fairly well with my finances. My wife will totally kick the sh*t out of me for mentioning that. But my brain set is just this:
It's 10pm. There is nothing I can do right now to fix my problems. There is nothing the other company(ies) can do to make it worse. So I am not going to worry about it until tomorrow.
And when tomorrow comes, I am well rested and I can think clearly.
I am sure many people have sleepless nights over their debt. It's natural. It's been a long day and you are tired. Your mind wanders and it's hard to escape the trap of negative thought. I hope the way I think if it can help you. If not, I'll just keep hoping and praying your debt gets resolved soon.

Jessi and Jeff, your way of reasoning makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, if I don't have it figured out how and when every bill is going to be paid (I have a budget that goes through next winter!), I can't rest. Of course, as always, something unforeseen happens (either an unexpected expense, or in my case, because my work is based on production, not enough work), then I have to re-figure it that night until I get everything to work out. By work out, I mean juggle a few bills to where I might be late with one collector that might be more willing to wait than another one. Once I have a plan on paper, I can sleep like a baby.

Oh, I hate that. I can be fine all damn day, and then BOOM, at 11pm here come all the worries. It's not just about finances, either, it's everything in the world that can possibly be wrong.
You guys are right..There isn't much you can do about things at night. About the only thing that helps me relax is to cuddle up on the couch and read a juicy novel.
