I just got a notice from island national group staitng i owe on a bill form orchard from 2001
I never heard of this company and as far as orchard i have 3 of their cards and nothing was ever said to me....
I just checked my credit report and now it shows public record for this debt but i have no listing for orchard with this about past due
What should i do

i spoke to orchard and they said they sold it it rjm
which i still have no idea what the hell they are talking about
im lost

whithout sounding stupid
what is a validation letter
and also since i dont know who what they are do they have a right to report to a credit ageceny a negative report under public record column

I may be way off here but I think just for a collection account it would not be posted in the public records section. I think they only post judgments,bankruptcies, and things such as those in that section.Are you sure it was in the public records section? And if so could it be that they somehow got a judgment on it? I would check with you local court house records to see if they did somehow posssibly get a judgment on you that you werent aware of. If I am wrong on this I apologize and maybe someone will come along that may be of better help.

I dbl checked and it is listed under public records
And it doesnt list anything else

I would do just as Jessi said and look up that validation letter .I have gotten a few good letters from this site. I f you would send any money to this company without first having them validate it and prove that they have this account a few years down the road you may be getting collection letters for somone who may actually have your account.I f this is a very old account chances are it has changed hands many times.
