Bay area credit service - debt should have gone to Insurance
Date: Tue, 12/19/2006 - 13:44
The ambulance service claims they did not for whatever reason receive my insurance information. I never heard from them requesting the information via letter or phone.
I now owe 601.00 to BAY AREA CREDIT SERVIC for the ambulance ride. I called the ambulance provider and they said they would bill my insurance and report that the account was closed.
How do I get the collection agency to report the account is Paid in Full and if possible to get this removed completely from my record?
Your credit report should provide accurate information about you
Your credit report should provide accurate information about your credit. You said everything was paid in the year 2005 by your insurance. How is this debt presently showing unpaid? What does your insurance company say?
Collection agency has to show the debt as paid in full if you have done it. However, negatives once reported in the credit cannot be taken off before the seven years period until the company provides info to the credit bureau.

I said.. the hospital, the doctor, and radiology got paid by the insurance. The ambulance DID NOT get paid, they DID NOT contact me in anyway shape or form but instead sent me to collections for 601.00. Now that I see this debt on my credit report and I called the ambulance company they said they would bill the insurance
How to I get the collection agency off my record since the original creditor is going to take care of the billing mistake? They said they would not do anything in regards to my credit report but only mark in their files that the account was closed.

See if you can directly pay the ambulance company. They will be updating your file with the bureaus after receiving your payment. You have the option to pay the CA also, but paying the ambulance company directly will be better in my view. Since the account was sent to collection, they get the chance to report in your credit legally, but you can insist them not to, since the payment will be done to the ambulance company.

I guess what I don't understand is how it will be deleted or at least marked as paid on my credit report. If AMR takes the payment but yet they have already sold the debt to bay area credit service how do I get them to mark the account as paid.

Hi,
How did you manage this situation as I am in exactly the same situation with the same parties? Is it Ok to pass on the insurance information to the collecation agency as that is what teh CA is insisting on?
dispute it with the CBR's Stating you were never notified of the

same thing they billed wrong ins co, and sent the bill out to the wrong home address, now bay area has finally located me at my home number thats how i discovered the mess, from one year ago, i am now trying to get someone to listen to me bill the correct ins co and fix my credit report
Suggestion
I am going through something similar right now. I used the ambulance, it was supposed to be paid by insurance, but for some reason the claim was denied. So the ambulance company (AMR) sent the bill to Bay Area Credit Service (BACS) for collections. 6 days later, the collection was paid by my insurance. But now I have a negative record on my credit report. I called BACS and they said I need to submit a written letter requesting removal of the record. So waiting to see what happens after that. I think you need to make sure everything's paid for before they can remove the record. If it was supposed to be paid by insurance, follow up with insurance company. If they refuse, you have to pay the credit service; no use paying the ambulance co or whatever, since they've already sold your debt to credit service. good luck, everyone!

Funny. I am dealing with Bay Area Credit over an Ambulance ride too. In my case, my ins was willing to pay but was waiting for the ambulance comp to send a copy of the ambulance report, which they never did. The ambulance comp had a year and a half to get them the amb report and they dropped the ball. I opened several cases with the ins to try to get them to pay but each time they said they need the report and said the amb comp knows this. I refuse to pay as the amb comp would never talk to me or return my calls (always got voicemail). How do you think this will go in court if I end up there?

First, is it legal for off shore employees to collect debts in the states? I know these calls are VoIP (internet based phones) with a line based out of California. I am pretty sure that the calls originate from India or the Phillipines which I question if it is legal for them to collect while out of the US.
I have the same problem. BACS is collecting on an ambulance ride that should have been billed to my insurance. I was in the hospital for 14 days after my ride and all the doctors got paid correctly. I don't know where they got the address of a California residence for me as I never filled any paperwork our stating that I resided in CA. My insurance and drivers license all stated the same out of state address which is where the hospital billed me. I have requested a bill 3 times and they have not sent one. I gave them my real address (probably a mistake but I was not hiding anything) and they still called back with the wrong CA address.
I don't know why I never received a call from American Medical Response (AMR) while the debt was "active" in their possession. I could have had them forward the bill to my insurance if they had not already done so. BACS now says that it is too late to send it to insurance. This is a bunch of BS.

It is obvious to me that American Medical Responce does not collect accurate information to bill to the insurance company, which happens often it seems. My husband is dealing with the same company's, American Medical Responce, BAY AREA CREDIT SERVICE and same problems. As far as getting it off your credit report I would gather all this information and submit it to credit report agencies especially when you have a excellent history of paying debts on time, this is at fault of the way buisiness is being done through the billing department of American Medical Response and they should be able to correct it by telling the credit report agency's of they're mistakes.

Hello, I work w/ AMR and I know it is frustrating to be receiving Collection Calls, especially when you have insurance. But 9 times out of 10, the ambulance drivers don't receive the insurance information or it gets misplaced during the transport. This is due to the fact that this is an "emergency medical service" and their primary objective is to ensure the patients well being. If you know you have taken an ambulance ride and have not received the bill or an EOB from your insurance, call. Chances are someone wrote down a bad address or we got wrong info from the hosp (if any was obtained at all). This will save you so much time trying to deal with collections.
Collections agencies are not nice, and they are trained not to be. All they try to do is collect a debt and they really don't care about any background stories or anythign like that. My advice would be to prevent this from happening, a simple phone call to the ambulace company, or any provider, after a month would sufice and just ensure that your bill is being taken care of and the correct info was taken down.

But the point mostly was that the ambulance company didn't even make an attempt to send a letter, bill anything...it is their responsibility to at least attempt collection before just sending it off to a collection agency.....and while CAs are not trained to be nice, they SHOULD be polite and follow the law and most do not.

I did notice a trend, duh...in all cases it seems to be AMR....maybe they should change their practices...and yes I am dealing with this right now too.
What I have noticed is that Bay Area callers lie. They do not bend the truth they lie!
