my question is that nco collection agency has called and talked to me. they wanted my bank account number and such. i refused. i gave him my atm card number knowing that he could only take our $50 a month. he then demanded my bank acount number. i refused again. he took $50 out already and has harassed me for days. the person i am speaking of is a mr. peterson (think a vice president). i have been getting nasty, rude phone calls from his company. i have complied by letting him take out money from the atm number (one time). what do i do to stop them. i am not reusing to pay them if i owe them, but the rudness and wanting of my bank account number is wrong. the bank says not to give it to them. if i do they can take whatever they want or at anytime. also they say that if i give it to them, i have no legal grounds to stand on
what should i do

ohlancasterpa,

Yuck. Good on you for not giving them any more banking info. What they're demanding is NOT LEGAL, afaik from my 2 days reading threads here. And your bank might not be giving you accurate information, either!

Looks like you're either a night owl like me or a very early riser! Sit tight for a few more hours, there are lots of savvy folks here who can help.

Meantime, read some of the threads here in this forum with similar subjects and lots of replies. Any of those dealing with allied interstate will be informative.

Also, google Bud Hibbs and Rip-off Report and check out their sites. You can probably search for whichever lowlife CA (collection agency) is harassing you and learn a lot from others' bad experiences. There are other good sites mentioned in the threads.

I need some ZZZs now, but if you don't get more replies tomorrow, I'll post again with what I've learned so far in coping with a different lowlife CA.

Chin up. Don't let Mr. Schmuck get to you. And don't let any negative comments about debtors here get to you, either (there are some, unfortunately). You clearly intend to honor your debts as you are able, and that is all that matters. And I use the word "honor" on purpose. Wanting to keep from being scammed is totally reasonable, and needing some help to do it is too! Because there are very unethical CAs out there, and you're dealing with one of them. You have rights, and I hope you get enough help here to use them.

Best,
Diva.

NO FLAMES: I realize there are actually ethical and professional CAs out there. But they're not causing as much trouble for folks, so they don't get discussed here. There are several debt collectors posting on this site. Most are very informative and supportive. You know who you are, and you have my respect and gratitude.

NCO is a company located in jacksonville florida. It is on university avenue. I would call and place a complaint with the bbb and with the floridsa ag. That will back them up off of you. People think complaints don't work but my company has had one too many and are cleaning up their act, so i know all it takes is a threat to shut them down from the AG. I promise it will work. Can I ask what the debt is for.
