I have gone through all the procedures to validate debt. asset acceptance has not validated wtih me but has validated with the bureaus. i am liable for the amount and i would like to settle. i hear i can settle for less but i'm not sure how to go about it. is there a standard letter going around that would help to me to do so? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure Asset Acceptance has provided right information to the credit bureau because they haven't validated the debt to you till now? You can ask the bureau to provide the results of the investigations done with the collection agency.

Keep in mind, one payment will bring the account current and the chances of negatives will stay longer in the credit file, if there is a default again.
