I have a payday loan out of Costa Rica that I owe 400 dollars. I've probably paid 200 back already. What can they do if I stop paying. They've made a ton off me for the past year. I live in TN.

Crystal, any company will want the consumer to pay their debts in full. The fees and interests will be according to the laws set in the state of the borrower, after having a proper license of doing business in your state. You will have to pay the outstanding balance before the loan company thinks about taking any legal actions. They will try to prove in the court that you are avoiding the payments. The judge will look into the matter and probably order a judgment.

What if they don't have a license in my state and what are the chances that a place in Costa Rica has a license in TN. I'm not avoiding the debt I'm just wondering about the license.

I am also from Tn.. I have filed complaints about several companies to Attorney General office. I have not heard back from them. But also have not heard from loan companies. I defaulted on 5. After writing letters to withdraw ACH debiting, 3 zeroed accounts out. 2 would not. Just waiting for response from AG. I overpaid quite a bit and want refunds from all.
File complaints with AG if not licensed in TN and if overpaid.
