To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Donna, I am a single sober mother of a beautiful 11 yr old son (DARE KID of the Year). In the last 11 yrs, I have gotten only a few child support payments. My ex-husband was order in 1998 for a complete psychiatric evaluation and to pay child support and medical benefits he has not complied with either order. He was physically and mentally abusive for many years.
He is a violent offender so when he does get arrested the will not keep him for child support work release because the state does not believe it is safe for the other people on work release (inmates) and does not want a law suit. Well he was arrested an ordered to pay $2000.00 and as usual did not pay. He also lied and told the state he had cancer, the year previous it was aids with no documentation to prove that either statement was true and he was set free! I was depending on that money to pay the taxes for 2006 on my house well my house is going to be sold for non payment of taxes and I have no were to turn. Creditors are coming after me and I lost my job and no one will loan me the money! Welfare won’t help, the state won’t help and my son has been doing so well I do not want to pick up and move. I can not understand why this is happening. I lost my job and unemployment barely helps at all. Why is a man who is so blatantly disrespecting the law over and over again. Not held accountable who is not doing there job! WHY ARE PEOPLE HIDING HIM? The courts do nothing and I am in a jam, he also has a restraining order since 1998 but he has been in the area continually and I am not a priority, someone out there help! Please! Why should I live in fear I have been raising my son alone all these years and I need assistance. Why should I have to sell and move because my husband is not complying with the law. Many years ago I lost my son due to my addiction and he was in foster care my ex-husband did nothing then either. I beat the odds. But here it is 9 yrs later and I really need financial assistance and the courts are not on my side… Why is this? Why is the state looking to protect the state instead of the people? I was given a truck as a gift the state wants to take it and sell furniture how come the state does not go after my ex-husband. Because he works off the books and that might actually take some work to find him! I was told he lives around the block, I have seen him several times and no that he is watching me and my son regularly, I have a restraining order and nothing seems to work, I AM AFRAID. He is invisible, It is easier to come after me but for god’s sakes is this fair to my son. Someone do something! I will not have money for New Years Celebration because of this. Does he have friends in the system? Please help me to understand why he is not held accountable for his responsibilities! THERE IS A WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST AGAIN! HE WILL GET ARRESTED WONT HAVE MONEY AND BE SET FREE TO TERRORIZE ME AND MY SON AGAIN. NEVER COMPLYING WITH THE COURT ORDER OF 1998!

First off congratulations on being sober. It is obvious that your smart decision has had a positive effect on your son. My questions to you---
When your ex was arrested and ordered to pay child support, was he working? If he has been in jail or prison, doesn't he have someone he is accountable to (probation or parole officer)that you could contact? When you said you have seen him in your area have you called the police and reported him as violating the restraining order?
Regarding welfare---no, they will not help you mostly likely because you own your home. No, its not fair, but thats the way it is. Don't worry about having money for a New Year's celebration, that should be the least of your problems.
Since this is a debt forum and you registered you will receive a call from a debt counselor to discuss your finances. In the meantime, ask any questions and check back here for more postings from members offering advice and tips. Good Luck!

I am so glad you had the courage to come here and tell your story. I want to be the first to welcome you.OOps im a little too late. Let me say this. Here you are in a public forum so for the most part we as a community are here to help and support you. You will get the occasional unwanted comments, but do not let it stop you from getting the support you can get here. Most of us are willing to do whatever we can to help.
My situation with child support is a little different. I don't have children but my husband has one. He spent 9 years in prison and the govt. was not happy about it.
He has a fat judgment for like 60,000 on his credit report and his wages are attatched for 94.00 every single week. I don't know what the laws are in your state but I do know that you can get help if you need it.
There is a service that is really good. It is called Catholic Charity Services, ususally they will help with rent, lights, and food. They are even on the internet.
The Dept. of Human Services has PRC program and I don't know if
The Dept. of Human Services has PRC program and I don't know if the amount comes even close to helping but the lifetime cap is $2,000 and it can be used to pay for rent, mortgage (to save your home), utilities that are shut off/or facing termination. The qualifications are not like qualifying for food stamps or Medicaid, your income can be higher. Check with your prosecutors office to see if the court system has a program for victims of domestic violence, they can often supply you with cell phones for emergencies and safe house to go to if you are afraid for your safety. Your best bet is to continue to speak loudly and demand action from your prosecutor's office. Find out if your community has a service for domestic violence victims, you may find some advocates there that will accompany you to court and advocate for you and your son. They have that here in my community. Like Lorri said, if he has a parole office or probation officer he reports to then report him for his violations, keep calling the cops, and if you know who his judge is, contact his judge.
