I am sorry your money was taken from your account like that, it is difficult especially at Christmas time. I'm glad you registered so that you can receive a call from a debt counselor and get some good free advice. Is it possible that the PDL and the credit card company are owned by the same company? I don't know how things like that work so I am not sure if it is possible. Maybe to prevent that from happening again you should close this new account too or put some type of stop payment order on any withdrawals from the PDLs you owe.

Financial institutions are required to follow the Graham-Leach-Bliley Privacy Act -- namely that they are not allowed to disclose or share any "non-public" personal information about you to any third parties. Since your bank account would be considered non-public information, they are not at liberty to give it to another company.
Just for clarification, was it a credit card application you filled out? Or did you actually open an account. I just ask because I have never seen a credit card application ask for my bank account #s.
Here is one thought: these collectors are devious... maybe they sent you a "fake" credit application to get information from you. When you thought you were applying for new credit, you might have mailed back all your new info to their collection department.
I would definitely contact the bank and tell them the transactions were unauthorized; I would also call your AGs office and report this.
