Lost my job after eleven years of employment and am now two months behind on my credit card payments. I am $20,000.00 in debt. The creditors call every single day and I am losing my mind. I don't even know where to begin.

First, take a deep breath. Since you have registered, a debt counselor in your area will be contacting you soon, who will then go over your different options including debt consolidation/debt settlement and help you decide which would be the best choice for you. Things will get better. Just hang in there. Good luck to you.

gabip---While waiting to be contacted by the debt counselor are there any questions or concerns you might have that someone can help you with? The members on this board have been through almost every type of financial crisis you can think of and are very helpful and can give great advice.

Gabip,
Welcome! First off, it's going to get better, right? Second, my feeling is that you have to be firm with your creditors. Explain that you are between jobs right now and are looking daily for one--but in the meantime, any money you get (unemployment, etc) is going to have to go for basics, like rent, food, lights, etc.
Once you do land something and are on your feet, then you will be happy to call them up and start making arrangements. I would also explain as professionally as possible that if they continue to call daily, that this will not make this unfortunate situation change any quicker.
And if they really hound you, then the most you can send them at this point is $10 a month, if that!
Hang in there and post often, OK?
