I would definitely recommend trying your local credit union. I opened a checking account with mine just yesterday, and they never checked Chex Systems or any other database. Just opened it based on the fact that I already have a savings account with them. It took all of about 7 minutes.

I agree with Sue..I opened an account with a credit union last year during my whole PDL fiasco..And I would never go back to a regular bank. Besides having more perks, Credit unions have a much higher level of customer service.

At a credit union, can you get a debit card with a Visa logo on it? If so, would that be just for checking, or would it be for savings, too?
