Could anyone tell me how to deal with A S & associates? Phone number 866-331-6161? They called me today and said I had to come up with half of what I owe on a pay day loan today or they were taking me to court and that it would cost and extra $750.00 because they tried to debit my account and it came back NSF. They said that I will do jail time for a returned check and a warrant will be issued for my arrest today. Can anyone tell me if they can do this? What can I do. I can't pay anything for over a week, but I tried to make arrangements to get it paid within 30 day.

Before I suggest anything, I would like to know if A S Associates send you anything in your mail? They are collecting for one of your past debts, so they should show you the specifics in writing. It is your federal right and the collector has to follow both the federal and the state laws. Read this in the FDCPA. You will be better informed on how to deal with the collectors.

No you cannot go to jail for not paying the debt. What you need to do is contact the original lender to see if they still have your information and if you could make payment arrangements through them. Let them know that you are trying to pay off the debt but you need validation of how much you owe and where all af the fes came from.
