Why not just give them HELL?

Sometimes they say that they will mail me a copy but it never comes. When they later tell me that they did mail it that gives me an oppertunity to point out how much that they lie. After 5 min of so of listening to me they really get pissed off and hang up.
If everyone would do as I do and return all of these calls we would bury these people with the same harasment that they try to give us. Today I asked to speak to a manager and was able to use up 15 min of her time. Doesn't sound like much, but 3 times a week for 6 months has cost them some money.

LOL! Well, while you're getting the satisfaction of being right, wouldn't you rather have the phone calls cease and desist? I'm not here to tell you anything, but if you write a letter invoking your rights under the fdcpa and tell them not to call you any more, that should end the calls. If they persist, then they are in violation of the FDCPA and you can sue them for the violation. At least that's my understanding that I've read in many of the posts on this board.

I definitely agree with fjv4 - why give them any more of your time? While you may be keeping them from harrassing someone else for a few moments while you occupy them, they are keeping you on the phone while you could be working on something much more pleasant.

I don't want to force them to stop calling me. I want to agitate them so much that they will stop. To me it has now become a game.
I first started just ignoring their calls. Then one time it was actually a person and not just a recording. When I told the lady that I did not owe their client any morney she informed me that I would continue to receive their calls until I paid. That is what gave me the idea to call them just as much as they call me. And they don't like talking with me at all.
I don't want to just send them a letter and aks them to stop calling, I want to agitate them as much as I can. Or better said, as much as they are willing to take. They can stop my agitation any time they are ready by just not calling me anymore.
If they do ever send me something in writing then I will have to respond in writing and that will force them to stop calling me. I must be honest also. I am having so much fun that I look forward to everytime I get to call them. I remind them of every lie they have told me in the past. And I ask them to give me just one reason that I should believe anything that they tell me. Believe me, I have found out just how to push their buttons. And they always end up hanging up on me. I piss them off.

I did this with collectcorp after they tried that BS with me a second time. It is alot of fun f**king with people who are trying to steal from you.
I called the police and asked if it was illegal to do this and they told me it wasnt, so i called them constantly untill they called the credit bureau and admited to lying. I had a blast catching them in their stupid pathetic lies.
If youre sure that you dont owe them any money harrass the shite out of them!!!!
Keep us posted!

Dont forget to check your credit file to see if theyve lied to the bureaus in hopes that youll pad their walletts. You can sue for this. If you find that they have, dont get it erased because it will totally dissapear from the files ... I made this mistake and couldnt get any documents supporting Collectcorp's lies. Keep it for your records when you sue them!

Although I totally understand your frustration, two wrongs don't make a right here. Like other posters said, you do have rights under the FDCPA--and it would also take less time!

I don't understand why you would want to waste your time calling them back. It would be much faster just to send them the ceise and desist letter, and besides what good is it doing you??

I think guest is just so frustrated to the point that turning the tables is their way of coping with the situation.

I don't think that I would want to waste my time. I can find better things to do, how about you?? I would just send the letter so I could get some peace and quiet for a change.
I guess I just don't see the point of wasting more of my time on
I guess I just don't see the point of wasting more of my time on those people. If they're calling me and have no reason to do so, I'm going to send them a cease and desist and be done with it. As a single parent, I don't have much of a life as it is - but what I do have is MINE.

Me too. Where I work, when I come home I am wanting to get dinner, take a shower, and rest. I don't feel like talking to these jerks and repeating myself 30 times each call. And besides, I really don't feel like calling THEM..

The problem with C&D letters is they are often egnored. The C&D letter does nothing if theyve already dammaged your credit which they wont fix untill you prove to them that you will accually file complaints against them.
Untill they clear your file you have every right to do to them what they do to you!

I've done this one a few times, but to telemarketers:
I answer the phone and they start giving a spiel. I say, "hold on a sec, I got someone on the other line, let me get rid of them." So then I press the hold button and come back on right away. Now I pretend like I might be talking to whoever was "the other person" and that I screwed up and got the telemarketer again instead of my friend. So I continue, "Hey Paul, I got some telemarketers on the other line holding, they'll hang up in a minute, now what were you saying?" They usually hang up when they hear that.

OMG...I love that one, DebtCruncher!!! That's right up there with asking for their home phone number so you can call them back during dinner. LOL

The point is to only do it untill they fix your credit or stop calling you.
My method was; if my credit still showed a false report from the agency each day, Id call.
If they called me Id return the call.

I have never played around like this on a debt I owed. I guess the only thing you have to be worried about is if they decide to sue over it; but since it doesn't seem like they can prove you owe it, I guess they won't. Soon enough, they will probably stop calling... but then they'll probably sell it to another collection agency and you'll have to start from scratch with a new company.
Back a few years ago, my friend didn't have a phone so I let her use mine when she applied for a credit card. Then things happened and we weren't friends anymore. When she stopped paying her bills, they started calling me for it, since they had my number.
I called them back one day and told them "she gave you my phone number, but now we're not friends." Then I gave them her new address and new job info. I guess they believed me, and liked that I gave them information, so they never called me again.

You did the right thing there, DebtCruncher. If someone uses your phone number as a contact number for creditors, you have every right to redirect them so they can find the person to collect from them.
I'm totally against collection agencies using illegal collection practices, but I feel if a person owes a debt and knows they do, they need to take care of it. I don't feel any obligation to protect someone from collection agencies if they have skipped out on their bills.
