Debt counselors are very good at helping and, no, you won't lose your electric and water. I'm not a debt counselor, but I do know that they talk to your creditors to work out a plan that will work for you so you don't have to be in an emergency situation.
I see that you've joined. A debt counselor should be contacting you soon.

P.S. Don't be embarrassed. That's what this forum is for ... to help people to get out of debt. I wouldn't be here myself if I didn't need the help, so please feel free to communicate to us about your situation so we can offer helpful advice.
Are these internet pdls or storefront? You need to take control
Are these internet pdls or storefront? You need to take control of your finances fast. The best way would be to close your checking account and open a new one before it is too late. But you live in TX, if these are storefronts contact them and make some type of payment arrangements that you can afford and still keep your home, and necessitites.
K717, Welcome! And you have made the first step in getting out
K717,
Welcome! And you have made the first step in getting out of the hole you are in! There IS a way out. I can tell you that most debt consolidation places will try and work something out with your creditors that will leave you money for the basics like shelter, lights, etc. What you will have to do is cut any excess items out.
What you can do is start with something simple--like in my case, it was bringing lunch to work every day and not buying. Little things like that do add up!
Now if your PDL's are internet, find out if they are licensed in Texas. Chances are they're not. If that's the case, tell them you'll pay back the principal at an interest rate that is LEGAL in Texas--and not a penny more! They will do everything to scare you, and will probably even tell you that sheriff's deputies are parked outside of your office waiting to haul you off to the slammer. Do not swallow this codswallop for a second. As my kids used to say "liar, liar pants on fire!"
Storefronts are a different animal. Chances are they do follow the laws in your state, so getting them paid off is a higher priority. Once again, you pay back the principal of the loan at a legal interest rate. Good luck to you and come back, OK?
