I received a letter in the mail today from the BBB of Florida with Bass' response regarding my complaint. This is what they had the nerve to say.

[quote]It is a fact that our office contacted ---- on or about the date of Oct 31, 2006. It is also a fact that our staff attempted to collect a debt from -----. However, it is untrue in every sense that anyone from our office indicated that arrest would result of non payment. This statement by ------ is absolutely incorrect.

The business of collections is a difficult one, in the fact that nearly every call undertaken by any collector can become heated and combative in nature. With that being said, and after careful review of all information available to me, I can not understand how it could ever become possible for what our employee said to construed as a threat to have criminal action/arrest occur. This statement by----- is absolutely preposterous. Bass & Associates has always, and will continue to uphold the integrity of our industry. We implement drastic measures to ensure compliance with applicable state/federal laws regulating the nature of our business.

Furthermore, the extent of the recourse available to our client is civil. Upon receipt of every file, we mail out detailed correspondence prior to contacting every consumer. Our office in no way operated outside of the parameters stated above. In closing, all of our calls can be recorded for training and quality purposes, as well as to protect the interests of our company and its employees.

Regards,

-----

I just tried to call this man, and of course his mailbox is full, but I will keep trying. This whole letter is a bunch of bulls***. All of us here, know how Bass operates that is why it is very important to file complaints with the BBB and the AG of Florida and the state you live in.

I can't wait to talk to this man
The BBB also sent me a letter to fill out and return to them in regards to this response.

You know, something that I just thought of...how much easier and better for everyone it would be if these companies would just treat everyone in an ethical and LEGAL manner when collecting debts.

I know, I'm stating the obvious, but just think...

It's so much more work for them to lie, cover their tracks, etc. I imagine they have a file of "response letters" for situations such as this - one for the BBB, one for states' Attorney Generals, one for the FTC....and they probably all read pretty much the same.

Sorry, posted too soon. I find companies lately from this area seem to be very unprofessional. I've dealt with two recently due to my severed relationship with my debt settlement company. They will be discussed on Friday when I visit with an attorney. It's not surprising that they would lie to the BBB. I am finding this to be more common. Also, file a complaint with the FTC. You can do this online and it will be on record.

Have they even validated the debt? This is what irks my chain lately. I am sending out a second request this week for debt verification. It's been 45 days so I think that's long enough to wait. When I talked to the guy two weeks ago, he assured me it was in the mail. They are only one state over so I don't think it will take that long. He doesn't seem to be able to get his story straight. The first phone call he was very demeaning but the second he was at least nice on the phone. I am also going to try and settle in this letter as well to be done with this one particular debt.
