I have had three payday loans in Ohio. On each one I currently have written checks (they require more than one check) for $912.00. So that's a total of 2736! I can renew these loans for 336 and still owe the total of 2736. I have done this numerous times but it's getting to where I can't pay my "regular" bills any more. Can I stop payment on my checks? What legal action will be taken against me? Can I make payment arrangements with anyone?

First off---list what companies you have PDLs with. I do not know the laws in Ohio, but plenty of people on here do and will give you advice regarding them. If you have paid over the amount of interest allowed by your state law, I know you can request a refund of some sort.

I do know that some debt consolidation companies will accept your PDLs in their programs. As a registered member you are entitled to receive a free phone call from a debt counselor. The debt counselor can advise you and you can also discuss what options you might have. Good luck.

I am so sorry to hear this because I like you am going through the same thing. My husband went behind my back and got payday loans form three different companies. Not because he had a drug habit or anything liek that, but because he wasn;t able to make our bills one time due to him working two jobs and me being at home wiht our infant child. He got injured playing softball and we got behind. He did get one paid off and we only had two to go, well his overtime was cut for 2 weeks because his cenus was down at his job ( he works in nursing). this really hurt us bad. He went back and borrowed not quite as much this time but he still owes money to all of them.

With the interest they charge we could actually pocket 300 to 400 dollars if they didin;t charge that much, making it impossible to get away from them and get ahead. These places are horrible. I do know that this is his own fault and that we are not asking for pitty, but I am just warning people to think of something else besides PDL. Its a revolving door that you cannot seem to ever shut!

Not to mention that he often works sick, injured because he can't afford ot not work because he has to pay them every two weeks. This scares me horribly, if he was to get injured they would come after me and I don't have any income.

Anothter thing if he can;t pay I am responsible to pay it, as I said he went behind my back in the first place. No notification to me that he was doing this even though it was a joint checking account. I think that they should require both signatures in order to process a loan.

I am glad that someone in here can give out information in order to help.

Cash Advance, Checksmart, & Advanced Cash America.

The first thing you are going to have to do is close your bank account and get a new one. That's what I had to do. They will continue to debit your account and it doesn't matter if you put stop payments on the checks or not. They will do ACH debits for different amounts to try and get their money which will cause you further distress. Next thing you need to do is call the store directly or walk in, NOT THEIR CORPORATE OFFICES because they are very difficult and nasty to work with. If you go into the stores they are more likely to try and work out a repayment plan. No matter what they tell you they have to work out a repayment plan with you. I can tell you from experience you definitely need to pay off Checksmart as soon as you can because they will take you to court the fastest. They were the most difficult to deal with. I actually had 5 loans out and am now down to one. IT can be done. Also call the Financial Division of the Dept of Commerce and talk to someone. I spoke to a woman who advised me to just go into the store with what I had. She said if they refused to take what I could give them she told me to tell them I would file a complaint but I didn't have to do that because they took my money. Remember THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

here in michigan they allowed you to do the same thing, pay intrest but our govenor she and the leg. passed a law regar
ding pdl where you can only borrow 2 at a time, max. 600 per
pdl, you cannot just pay interest, you must pay the whole pdl off,but you can reborrow 2 pdl a month, state law also lowere
d the fee to 15 for first 100, 14 for 2nd 100, 13 for 3rd 100,
12 for 4th 100 and 11 for each 100 thereafter which is a max
for 600.00 loan to 676.00 plus 0.45 data vertification fee whic
h is added to the loan so they pdl places can confirm that you
do not have more than 2 out there and not in default, also he
re if you cannot pay, we have an option where you can do a
installment agreement where they add 15.00 to balance which
you have make three payments, but you cannot borrow from
anywhere else during that time, which is better here you can
only do two as i used to have 3-4 out there for sister and the
intrest thing was getting too expense, also they used to be a
ble to charge/collect three times of the check for non-paymen
t, plus court costs, that also changed to returned check for 25.00.
