Verbal contracts can hold up, as long as you have proof that you gave her money. I loaned a friend $1500 about 4 years ago, she promised to pay it back in 3 weeks. I wrote a check out to her to evidence it.
When she never paid, I took it to small claims court and got a judgment. Then I sent in a garnishment order, and got paid through her employer.
