Messages are always left on my home phone while I am at work. I try to call them back and get the complete run around. I have now been sent to 5 different agencies trying to get this taken care of. Can you help me?

I would pin them down to some hard facts and information. Don't let them intimidate you over the phone ore make you commit to something. You DON'T have to. Don't even acknowledge any kind of debt. Ask for all the relevant information such as who the original creditor was, the amount, any account number, the collection agency address and then follow up with a debt validation letter. Always get the debt validated to make sure that it really is yours. If you can, deal with the original creditor and pay them. Document everything that is said and every time you talk to the collection agency. And get everything from them in writing. If they keep hanging up on you, just make sure that you document that. If it ever went to court and you showed a judge that you tried and tried to get all the pertinent information, then you stand a better chance. They will have to have some kind of record as well as to when, how, and all of that good stuff while contacting you. And if they can not provide good information, whose credibility do you think will come into question. Once again, you'll come out ahead. So, pin them down...get all the pertinent information and send a debt validation letter. There are plenty of examples all over this web site. Hope that helps to get you started.
