A lien was just placed on a friend of mines account. However, her check is currently being garnished for payment. Is this lien legal?

Liens are recorded notations that inform all relevant parties about the debt owed from the proceeds of the equity of the property attached with. If you feel it is an error, challenge it directly with the party that placed the lien or if you are able to provide documentation proving the lien is in error. The title company will check their records and remove the lien if it proves to be an error.

It is similar as if a loan company are putting a lien on your vehicle. I would suggest that your friend contact the company responsible for the lien and contact them to let them know of what's going on and that the amounts are being garnished from the wages.

You said that they are attaching your friend's account? Are they attaching a home or car? What exactly did they put a lien on?
