I paid off a credit card that had been sold to goldstein, henderson and weiss by plains commerce bank. I checked my credit report on 1/31/13 and I show that plains commerce is still reporting the balance of 324 that I owe. Even though I paid it off with goldstein, Can I dispute the 324 that plains is showing, since it was paid off?? Any advice. I am trying to clean up my credit and advice on that as well. Is it smart to pay off the accounts in collection? I have 9 in collection of those 9 I paid one off in full friday and I have setup a payment plan with another one. They are fairly recent debts no more than 3 years old.

How do you know that the account was sold?? It could have been assigned. Even if it was sold, they are entitled to report for
7 years. Paying a sold account or even any collection account does nothing for your credit score.

thanks soaplady that pretty much answered my question. The letter that I have from Goldstein says the account was sold to them.
