I next called Arrow and they told me they had nothing on me...so they started to look and lo and behold they found a record for someone with name close to mine..I'm Terry and he's Terrance. Both of us live in the same town. Or SSN's are not even close though. After a bit of yelling they told me they'd get it removed ASAP. From what I can tell...they found everyone in my area with the same last name and a close first name, and if they could find a SSN for that person they posted it to the CRs...so there are several people with my last name that now owe BoA.
I called the AG in Florida and he's on it...seems they do not like CA's commiting fraud...go figure!

Wow it's really scary how people can screw with your credit like that. If I were you, I would also place disputes with the individual credit agencies. You can do them online at each of their websites. I did one through Experian recently and it didn't even take a week for them to get back to me with a the deletion...that might not be the norm but at least I know it was taken care of on their end...and not some collection company saying "ok we're on that". ALSO just so you know, if you go through the credit agency directly...the company they make an inquery to has up to 30 days to validate that the informaton on the report is correct...not 45. If they don't do it in 30, the information is deleted. Hope that helps!

Terry, monitor your credit copy regularly. The collector should get the item removed from your file within 30 days. Inaccurate negative item is going to hurt your credit scores severely. Since this is a collection entry, it will give you R9 rating. Take care of it at the earliest.

I know that you are entitled to at least one free credit report yearly, and possibly more, if you have been denied for any reason or fraud is suspected. I would definately take advantage of this to make sure this inaccurate information is off yours.

I have some issues with my own new workplace's accounts. I called upon two people who were dumbfounded to be called upon for payments on gas credit cards they swear they never even applied for. One of them was taken out before the debtor was even born! The Accurint check proved it. What the hell is going on here?

I would suspect fraud on that one, Ari. Or maybe someone made up a SSN and it happened to be that person's?

I don't know about that, you can't make up a social security number, it has to match up to the name, and the names and addresses of these people matched to a tee. Either they are trying to escape this, or they cosigned for someone who didn't step up to the plate, or it's straight identity theft.

Ari - keep us posted on what you find out - it sounds like an interesting addition to our list of issues with identity theft!

I will. This already gives me a sick feeling about the place I work at now. This is the second agency I've worked at where I've had to collect on f'd up junk debts. Is Pensacola full of corruption or is it just my imagination?

I had NCO call me and call me about a debt that wasn't mine. There is a woman in my town with the same first name and last. They harass to no end so I had to send a cease and desist letter to get them to stop calling. It did wind up on my credit report even though we are not the same person. It's kind of scary that more research isn't done when it's handed over to the CA in the first place. It has since been removed from my credit report.

Sorry I saw Arrow and I ment Anchor Receivables.
Both of them have agreed to remove them. Anchor has stated they are moving as fast as they can. I talked to my case worker at the AG's office and she's already contacted them so they are worried.
Yes I did dispute them with transunion.
I'm wondering if TU isn't very watchful, I noticed the options for disputes included something like "This item belongs to someone who's name is spelled close to mine".
Ya I know, I'm buying a home and the broker told me that these entries increased my rate by 2 points and almost $200 more a month.
I have decided that I'm going to follow this through...even if they remove them, they shouldn't have been there to begin with...this was Fraud at it's worst. I plan to do whatever I can to make sure the AG's office takes this all the way.

I get collection letters every now and then from NCO also for some AT&T bill that I know is not mine.I have never had anything with AT&T.The next one i get im gonna send a dv letter back with it .
Also TU is prone to making mistakes. They had me listed as having a cr since 1981.. I would have been 10 at the time. They even have my month of birth wrong, right date but wrong month.I called and had them correct all of it.

The problem is that many collection agencies and junk debt buyers don't really care whether the debts they are trying to collect are valid or fraud, they don't care if they have calculated the correct amount owed, and they don't even care if they have the right person. Anyone with a similar name will do. Or anyone with the debtor's old phone number or old address will do too. They just try to harass or scare anyone they can get on the phone into paying them.
Now it has become a huge business to buy up old zombie debts and try to collect on them, so lots of innocent people with similar names are being drawn into the problem.
Maybe the democratic congress will do something about it if enough people get sick of this.

I dealt with NCO recently for having reported the same debt twice, they were very efficent in removing their posting on my CR.
