I have a question about removing an item from my credit report. I do not know if this is possible, but I want to know if there is a way to remove an old collection from my report. It was for 125 dollars in 1999. I was 18 and it was a medical / emergency room invoice. I was still in highschool and my father was in charge of paying for it, but since I was 18, the bill went in my name. He never told me that it went to a collection agency or anything. And now it is still showing on my credit six yeard later. It is the only thing on it that is bad (I have never been late with a payment on a credit card or anything) and it is pulling my score down. There is a differnece of 60 points between the agencies that have it on file versus the ones that do no. Any help??? thanks:)

Brooke,

Was the debt paid, or did they charge it off?

As your credit report is showing this account as unpaid debt, it might also be showing the details of the holders of your account.

You need to contact the collection agency appearing in your credit report and make necessary arrangements to pay it off.

You can take the help of the debt consolidation program to reduce your debt from financial charges, late fees, accrued on it. You will also be offered easy monthly payments to clear this debt without haste.

The debt consolidation program will help you to clear this debt faster and erase the negative markings that are appearing in your credit report. You will also be offered counseling and budgeting programs so that you can keep a check on your finance.

Brooke,

If your debt is for $125 you dont need debt consolidation. I would contact the creditor and tell them you'll pay it explain the situation and have them agree to not to report to your credit file. Then pull your credit reports and dispute the debt and it should come off your report. MAKE SURE TO GET ANY AGREEMENT WITH A COLLECTOR IN WRITING!

Now if their are a bunch of fees on the debt as Ben questioned. You may want to get some outside help, but this is definitely something you can do yourself.
