BBB sucks!

I would have rather them closed it as "unresolved" but to say that they have made a "good-faith" effort to me is somewhat ridiculous!

That is why everyone tells you to file complaints with your AG office and the state of the AG office with that state. This is the only way to get fast/accurate results.

I have to agree with you guys. I had an issue with Rent-A-Center. I had a TV I was renting from them. It needed to go in for repairs once again. Rather than taking one of their loaners, which I have better TVs here at home, I refused the loaner, assuming it wouldn't be longer than a week to repair, as in times past. Well, it ended up being 2-1/2 months. Mind you, they were charging me rent on the TV the whole time they had it in repairs. After finally getting it back, I was behind on one payment. The manager and I had a yelling match (which I don't EVER do), and I finally told him to come and pick it up, that I refused to do business with him anymore. It took them forever to finally come and get it. They would schedule a time to come and pick it up and then not come, not even bothering to call. I told the BBB I believed they owed me the rent paid on the TV during the time it was in repairs.
Rent-A-Center's response was that I refused the loaner (not stating the reason I refused) and that I was aware that I was still responsible for paying on the TV while in repairs, which is an outright lie and doesn't even make sense. Why would you be required to pay on a rental for 2-1/2 months when it's not in your possession? She also said they "gave me" a 45-day period where I didn't have to pay. That period was the time it took them to finally come and pick it up after I repeatedly told them to do so in between their trying to get me to change my mind and start paying again.
Anyway, the BBB sent me the response from Rent-A-Center, stating to reply by January 25 or the case would be closed. I went to reply yesterday, which is when I got the notice, and they had already closed the case!
BBB - what a joke -
Our issue revolved around poor service on the AC unit on our house. After the business did nothing to resolve the open complaint, the BBB offered to have arbitration - Looking back that was a BIG mistake - we signed over our rights to do anything other than abide by the ruling of the arbitrator. The business was found to have poor service but that they did nothing wrong??????? Yes - that????????s what they said??????? They admitted the business conducted itself poorly and than closed the complaint??????? Now the company in question, has a complaint on the books that shows as ???????resolved??????? and ??????? guess what Spunky, it????????s not - - We????????re still pissed at the company for their poor service, pissed at the BBB for not doing what their charter says and we????????re mad at ourselves for thinking the BBB would help - - lesson learned = don????????t bother with the BBB and get a Lawyer instead.
BBB sucks!
Attempted to purchase a laptop case online from Custom Kingdom. Nothing came through. Attempted to simply get a refund. The company didn't have a number they would answer and refused to answer emails. They're in Southern California. BBB In cali did nothing. BBB in my state did nothing. I got fed up and just ate the money and they still have their reputation.
BBB Sucks. There are so many companies listed as BBB members and they rip you off. I have completely lost respect for the BBB.
I agree the BBB sucks , especially the Los Angeles BBB.

the BBB isnt going to do anything to anybody, they are simply just a thuggish big name where people can post complaints.
if you go onto their site, there is only spots for negative feedback, you can not post anything good at all.
the BBB of southern california is affiliated with certain settlement companies and the head guy at BBB socal gives every other company a F rating, the good companies have F ratings too.
BBB is a crappy place to go for help nowadays, they are more corrupt than anything.
hopefully this spreads over the USA eventually and they get shut down.

The BBB is a scam. They basically work like the mob. You pay them extortion fees for protection " a good BBB report ". If you don't pay they break your legs "give you a bad rating".

its a shame that they origionally were suppost to be there to help protect people. but over an over i have a hard time finding faith in them anymore at this point with all the bogus companies out there getting As when you find forums like this proving otherwise that the company is crap. now you can just chalk them up with the rest of the companies out there just tryin to make a buck.

The BBB cannot resolve any issue or dispute for anyone. They are a not-for-profit organization to provide a free service to help proovide communication between two parties. The BBB assists the AG with lots of governemental action, and they do a lot to assist with media and regulatory agencies.
They are NOT a government run organization, and you are always better off reporting a company to the CORRECT authorities; however, they are a venue to assist in resolving a dispute if it can be resolved.
Most of you are coming from the consumer side but I can tell you
Most of you are coming from the consumer side but I can tell you that the BBB is just as useless from the business side. They insert themselves in situations that are none of their business and they give a soap box to people without a real complaint. They cost businesses money and are powerless to solve consumer problems. Every state has a consumer protection agency and the consumer is less likely to lie and the business will respond quicker. The BBB serves no useful purpose, except to generate a salary for their staff.
You are lucky :)
The BBB at least sent you a reason or something telling they are closing the case and why they are doing that. In my case they did not bother, just closed the case and now the company I complained about has A+ according to BBB .
Type BBB sucks on search engines and you will see they DO SUCK...

The bbb is a useless organization and it is a shame that most of the public perceives them as a government agency, when in fact they are a franchise. They claim to be not for profit, but the ceo of thier va based headquarters was exposed on 20/20 lasy year. Just google youtube and you will see the bbb ceo squirm. They are not good for the consumer or a the business since they give false hope and highly rate bad companies, and give poor ratings to good companies. Consumers are grossly misinformed when they think the bbb can compel companies to do refunds to satisfy their gripes. The guy above with the poor english who said the bbb assit the ag's office with complaints is either a bbb employee or an idiot. They don't help with crap and they certainly don't help the ag's office. They are an outright scam. Hasn't anyone figured it out yet????
