I have an old At&t account that was sold to Palisades after a put in a dispute with At&t. Palisades transferred my information to a Law and I was contacted about the the account 3 years later with a subpoena.
In any case I just want to get ride of this problem (which by the way I don't own anything on). I wan't to settle with the Law Office, but I am told that now I don't only owe the original $1600.00 but another $500.00 for interest and about $200.00 for atty fees. Therefore, they are giving me a settlement amount of $1250.00 and nothing lower? What can I do to have them take off the interest and fees and provide me a settlement off of the original amount?

It's normal with a collection agency to add on the interests and fees on a delinquent account. You can negotiate to waive off the fees and arrange a lower settlement amount with the CA. Take a debt consultant's advice if you are unable to do the negotiations on your own.

Maybe, this account is close to the expiry of the SOL in your state. Don't avoid the court date if a case is already filed. Either you need to work out something with the CA outside the court or explain your payment interests to the judge.
