hello. I hope you can help me. My macys acct was put in omni credit service which is a collection agency. I asked them if we can work something out like to pay certain amount monthly. They refused and instead wanted me to pay the whole amt in 2 days or it will go to court! I was hoping that they will be very helpful to consumers to pay the amount in what ever terms that is acceptable , but the rep was very rude and kept telling me that that is my only option to pay it in full. Is this acceptable? do i have any rights in this situation? help!!

Has Omni verified this debt? Have you contacted Macy's to see if you can pay them directly?

Until Omni mails you a letter verifying the debt, they have no right to take you to court. Don't let them threaten you. Check this website to know what Omni is required by law to do:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/fdc.htm

Since Omni is a debt collector, they are bound by that law.

I would like to know if your problem was ever resolved with Omni, unfortunately I am having the same problem and they will not release any kind of information too me about their location or my account number with them. Help!

Do not settle with them, they are a scam collection agency! I have NO unresolved debt and when I call and ask why they are calling, they only send me to different people. They start with, "I'm glad you called to resolve this." When they ask for my name, I tell them I won't give it to them until they tell me why they could POSSIBLY be calling, they say "you shouldn't call someone if you don't want to speak with them" and hang up.

All you really need is there phone number. Sometimes, the caller id says one number, and they will give you another. Google the number and majority of the time you can find a mailing address to send them a DV request.

Remember folks settling on your own is a haggle and it's downright filled with dirty tactics; the process can get ugly and most of the time you'll recieve calls from companies who don't even close to abiding by fdcpa. Report them and tell the person on the other line you'll report them. Ask for their full name, extension, ID number, etc. Just remember most of the time these tactics are empty threats and devised to intimidate you.

I just called them to try to settle the balance on my macys card and the rep I spoke with was very rude to me. He continued to raise his voice to me and speak down to me like I was below him. All I asked was for a statement to be sent to my house so I could start paying again. He proceeded to tell me my only option was to pay over the phone and I told him I was not comfortable doing so. After staying on hold for 25 mins, he came back still saying the same thing. I got angry enough for him to tell me I could still pay on my card in the store! Why he couldn't tell me this to begin with I would love to know!

To Guest posted July 6, 2009, the reason the collection agency doesn't tell you this is because some of they actually buy the debt from the original creditor for pennies on the dollars. Then try to get you to pay the whole debt so they can make a profit by claiming they are collection for the original creditor when, in fact, the original creditor sold the debt and are no longer interested in collecting from you.

Know your rights! If you can, make sure you get everything in writing and offer a settlement amount to get rid of the debt once and for all.

I just received a call from Omni today to apparently collect a debt that I paid off more than a year ago from Verizon, a collection they just received in their office on 7/21/09. The best part is they are trying to collect for more than twice the amount of the bill I paid. Now this guy wants me to fax him my information from paying off the bill, what I think is wierd (and a little scary since he had my social) is that he called me from an Arkansas area code, gave me a 800 number to reach him and a Tampa area code for the fax he wants me to send.

Scam or not I will be glad to send him my paid off bill and then I dare them to call me again. :)

They've been calling me frequently for almost a year to settle an account. Unfortunately, though, the account is with someone who had my current phone number before it was assigned to me. This is the bit that Omni can't seem to understand. Since registering my number with the national Do Not Call registry hasn't worked, I figure I'll fight fire with fire. One of their reps was dumb enough to leave both his name AND extension in a recent voicemail, so, if his office and it's many reps are going to keep calling and harrassing me, I'm going to keep calling and harrassing them --- this particular rep exclusively.

I too am trying to pay off my debts. I had a nice settlement with Chase but Macys has some horrible company calling me. Very rude I called his supervisor and told her I am paying off one debt at a time and the threats and calls will go unanswered until I can make a payment. She said she was sorry but the calls will continue. What I don't understand is I am the one suffering and loosing sleep trying to get everyone their money to pay off the debt. I am the one who credit score has gone to dirt after having good credit all my life so I am getting a bad credit rating and fees and phone calls for helping them to get rich when things were good. It's good I don't need to worry too much about my credit so when this crap is paid off they won't have another sucker like me to help make them profitable.

I am an ex employee of Omni Credit Service, When I worked there I always treated every person with respect! They will take payments on the accounts as long as it is in reason! Exsample take you balance and divide be 12 and that will give your expected monthly payment! dont be surprise that they wont take 25 dollars a month on a 4000 balance they are not going to work with you for the next 5 years to pay off your debt! no company will!

Ms Kitty call Omni get your balance let them know that you are having a hard time they can and will put you on a payment plan! for Ex sample take your balance divide by 12 monthly payments and that is what is expected that you should pay if you cant pay balance! There are some nice people working there that will help resolve you debt but you most want to work with them!

Note Macy will not except Debt settlement companies that includes Omni Credit Service! If you go with one of the those companies they will still go after you to recover!
Debt settlement companys dont protect you if the creditor doesnt want to work with them!
Creditors don't have to work with any third party person or Company!

Wow, I just got a call from this Omni Credit Service and the guy was a straight up asshole. He was very rude, after telling me that they were gonna take me to court unless I paid the 1,700$ debt(which I cannot pay at this time) he then put me on hold for a few minutes returned and said I can make 3 payments of 385.00$ which is alot better than the whole amount at once, then I was put on hold again for about 10 minutes until the line disconnected on it's own! Are these people for real? Im willing to pay the debt but damn they need a attitude adjustment bad. BTW his name was John Peter(s).

why are you teaching this people bad tactics. Why did they take the loan if they know they wont pay the loan? Bottomline, dont take a loan if you know you will not pay. It is not "burger king" you can not have it your way. I know sometimes bad things happen to good people, but you have some people that are considered blatant "DEBTORS" that detaste paying their loans. When a collection agency calls you, it is because you have defaulted with the original creditor, be responsible as you were when ypu received the laon and pay the debt. Stop crying about it and looking for someone to tell you how to ghet ouit of paying. THIS MESSAGE IS FOR ALL OF THOSE THAT TAKE LOANS AND DONT PAY. If you loan someone money and they want to pay on their own terms, would you actually let that happen? if you can answer that question honestly, then you can understand how the person that gave you the loan feels.

I have been called by Omni Credit in florida and the lady I spoke to left me a harsh voicemail one day so I called them back and at first she was a pain in the butt but she understood my situation and she really made every effort to help me out. I made a payment in the middle of the month and she was suppose to call me the next month to see if I could make another payment. I recieved a call a week later from two people from omni credit who was rude and wanted me to pay off my debt fast when I just made a payment a week ago and the month was not even over. they said the lady I was talking to at omni credit violated compnay policy so they fired her but I think they fired her because she was too nice to her customers and really understood their situation. after fighting with the two new representives from omni credit I just decided to pay them off and be done with it. I will be looking out for my letter from them stating that I have settled with them and if a problem arise I will be on my way to florida to take justice into my own hands. There are no good people in omni credit cause they fired them all.

Iva,

I am encountering the same exact issue right now. Macy's referred my debt to Oxford Management Services. I paid my bill, through PayMyBill in 2008. Now Macy's, is contacting me three years later, stating I still owe them money, when in fact this is untrue. I am unable to contact Oxford. Have you been able to resolve your issue? Thank you.

Regards,

Mel
