A year without paying.

Unless you are able to manage all the payments together, you need to prioritize the ones that have the foremost importance. Statutes on student loans will never expire; hence they need to be paid back at all cost.
Your credit card debts are unsecured debts. Hence, statutes of limitations apply depending on the laws where these accounts were opened. You need to check the SOL of that state and figure out if there are any chances of legal actions now. Companies cannot sue for those debts that are already past the SOL.
Do you remember when you did the last payment on the cards? You will be able to verify info on the SOL without calling the credit companies. Like you said, you want to pay off everything, give a call to each creditor and request for an itemized statement. Show your interests to pay the debts and they will hopefully do some arrangements on your file.

I kinda agree . . . . But if someone really was in this situation I'd suggest that they either search through their records and figure out who and what they owe, or contact the creditors and find out what they owe. It may be a bit of work because odds are the original creditor has sold the debt to a thrid party collector. Once you find out how much you owe and to whom, I would start paying down what you can. Since you are out of the county you can't (I don't think) be served with papers, so if one of the creditors has already sued you, odds are a judgement has been entered against you because you didn't show up. A copy of your credit reports is probably the best place to start.

Hi, welcome to the forums!
Glad to hear that you are wanting to take care of your past credit mistakes. Have you pulled your credit file recently? Before sending in a payment to any of them, you'll want to check the status, and see if its about to fall of or not. Also, there could be some mistakes. Sending validation letters to all of them may also help. You don't want to deal with any collectors that don't have a license to be collecting in the first place.
Also, be prepared for a higher amount than you last looked. Not paying for a year could have added some hefty interest rate fees, or penalty charges.
As Mocha Latte mentioned, annualcreditreport.com will allow you to pull your free credit report.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Also take advantage of the free consultation from a debt consolidator. You should be getting contacted by one, shortly after you signed up on this site.
Regards
Mike

I think that getting a copy of your credit reports is the best place to start. That will at least show you who currently owns the debt and about what you owe. Then you can go from there and call each place and make arrangements.
