What to do if Pinnacle Credit does not provide debt information

I don't know if you are legally entitled, but I would send them
I don't know if you are legally entitled, but I would send them a letter stating that you believe this debt is already paid, and ask them to validate it. At least that will buy you a little bit of time to investigate things further. I'm guessing you don't still have your bank statements or any cancelled checks from 6 years ago, but if you know what bank you banked with at the time maybe you could try calling them and seeing if they could provide you with a copy of the cancelled check. It may be a long shot since it was so long ago, but they might still have records of it. You will probably have to pay some nominal fee for it, but at least you would have your proof. You also may want to try calling verizon again and sweet talking the person that answers and see if maybe they can tell you. I'm unaware of any law that says that the original creditor can't tell you who they sold the debt to.
Mystery Collectors
I believe that you have the right to have all the information associated with the file, be it new information or preexisting from a previous collection agency. We could all tell you always keep notes about your bills, who you spoke to, when and regarding what. I suggest taking the company to small claims so that you can have a judge tell them that you are legally entitled to the documents in the file, especially seeing that they are being used to get money from you. Are you actually paying a bill and have no proof of payment, receipt, or billing? I hope not. Well small claims is easy one form and thirty or so dollars... good luck.
Oh yeah and by the way, my credit report says I owe pinnacle $1903 for what I have no clue, and when? and to top it off I can't figure out which Pinnacle it is that actually has my file. They are all located in Minnesota with a slightly different change in title. Woo Hoo I am enjoying repairing my credit... NOT!!!!
