I received a phone call this morning from a Peter Hanf informing me that I have committed internet fraud and some other charges were pressed against me for non-payment of a payday loan. The amount of the loan, they tell me was $200. I am pretty sure that I have paid this loan off considering the fact after the 5 renewal they start debiting your account for the processing fee and also for payment. This Peter guy was really rude and proceeded to yell at me when I was trying to get some clarification on the matter. I called back on my cell phone and informed Peter that I would no longer speak with him and that I wanted to talk to a supervisor. Well the supervisor who sounds just like Peter came to the phone, by the name of Marcus Johnson. First of all both individuals had real deep arabic accents and then to give me an American name to try to smooth the conversation did not help at all. Anyway I was told that I had until 12 noon to send them $460 or the police would be knocking on my door. They then asked me if I had been arrested before because this is what was going to happen on my job or at my home. This made me extremelly angry. I called them back after I had read the blogs on this website. Everything that was said on the web site happened as I talked to the people. I think what really made them hang up was the fact, I was trying to pull my bank statements up online and when I could not access my account online I called my bank. The representative in which I talked to stated that the system was down but she would call me and print out the statements in question so that they could be reviewed. At this point the people from the company decided that they had enough and informed me that the police were on their way and hung up. What should I do? I know that I did take out a payday loan for $200 but I am pretty sure that it was paid off. The thing of the matter is that I lost my job the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and my bank closed my account, which has since been re-opened. I am struggling but I'm confused, if you are having legal proceeding being brought up against you are you suppose to recieve something in the mail stating that there is a legal action against you so that you can respond?

First - welcome to the forums and what state are you in? If you read any of the threads on collection agencies and some of the nastier pdls you will see others comment on these type of tactics. Just remember there are not any debtor prisons! And I would like to see your Police depatarment take time from real crime to go and gett you!!LOL
These guys are full of beans!! They cannot toss you in jail. This is a threat that many of these companies make and think that this will get them the money, but you have done your homework now get the laws of your state and file a complaint with the ag's office and the FTC. Good Luck, stick around and keep us posted.

I am live in the heart of Dixie, Montgomery, Alabama. I also recieved a call from Bass and Associates. The person who called had such an attitude that I referred to myself in the third person to get the information that I needed. I also see that they are like these other jerks. I went by my bank and my representative had a print out of my account. From what I see these people have no intention of you paying there loans off. Since I have had this, July 20, 3006, they have debited my account for a total of $570.00. This includes $360 in fees to renew and $210 in NSF fees from my bank. The $360 is where they debited my account for $45 for 4 months which after the second month they were suppose to debit my account for the the balance of the loan. This is just highway robbery. Because of them my account was overdrawn for $939.35 in which I was just able to pay this off and have my account reopened. When I add up the fees for renewal, I owe them nothing because the original loan was for $150 not $200 like they said. These people are just crooks. Any words of advice?
