long story short - my son was on an expensive injectible med. we would have qualified for free if my ins didn;t pay anything, but since they did pay a measly portion, I had a LARGE copay. I got help from an organization, which left me with $100 copay - so then he has an adverse reaction to the med & when I called the mfg pharmacy (NOva Factor)to cancel,I asked if I had a balance (since they were so sporadic with sending bills) they said no -don't have it in writing though. so over the summer, more than 2 1/2 years after this was done, I get a note from Nova Factor asking for $9000 since I quit early on the program, it was more money. I never signed the original agreement, as I still have it. WHen I asked questions to them & mentioned this they said they would get back to me. 2 months later, another bill. I call again asking questions never agreed to pay - they will check on it. yesterday I get a bill from RAB Inc for $14556....they called me 2x the message asking for me or MY SON who is now 19 but was 16 at the time he was on meds. I feel that I don't owe this - they were so unorganized, how do I know if any of it is right? I just don't know what I should do next. BY now it is 3 years later, we are in Illinois and I know there is a sol, but I'm not sure when this would apply. I had other med bills with an agency but I am paying those no problem. My situation is even worse financially than when I first asked them for financial aid, 2 kids in college I can't pay this anyway, and I don't think it is fair. This has tipped my stress level to maximum for sure. any help or ideas would be great.

Was this medication that your son was on part of a treatment from a hospital? Did his doctor prescribe it for a specific illness that was untreatable by any other means? The reason I am asking these questions is that if he was in the hospital at the time of the prescibing, you might want to call the hospital ambudsman or if there was a team of docs treating you son, you might want to see if they have a social worker that is on the team. Explain to them what is going on. Many times the hospital can intervene in situations such as yours. Beleive me - I have been there witha child - my son had one blood test that cost $2500.00 per month, and his meds ran about 50/60k a month and that was with me mixing them at home.

it was a growth hormone prescribed by his dr due to kidney disease- he did it at home, so I can;t really call the hospital. The pharmacy/manufacturer is Nova Factor, and every time I asked them questions they never got back to me. I know I shouldn't ignore this letter, but as I said, how detailed do I get with this agency? I am in Illinois. The agency is RAB Inc

If the doc ordered the meds - you most certainly can call the hospital and the doc regarding this. My child had the rarest form of systemic autoimune disease and was on more meds than you could think of! All of them I gave at home - I mixed ALL of of his meds at home and these were IV meds - he had a broviac(hickman catheter) there were times that I would draw his blood for labs. He was also on growth hormone (the docs called it liquid gold) for a very rare type of kidney disease and also because ofte amount of steroids he was on - he was laterally stunted. and the cost was absorbed I never in my life time would have been able to afford the meds my kid needed if I hadn't let the docs and the hospital know my finances. I know that if you go back to the doc who ordered this it can be straghtened out - trust me - I have been there.

I will call the dr's office today & see what they can do. It just makes me mad that they never sent any billing after he went off the med. I almost tossed all the paperwork, then almost 3 years later they are trying this? Maybe I do owe some of it, I really can't remember - but they said I didn't. I even asked them to maybe redo a financial aid form, I don't get a paycheck and they still sent me to the CA. and then to add another $5000? If the dr can't help should I try to call NOva Facotr back or would this agency settle for alot less - I just am so confused and I never really did anything wrong. HOw could I have paid any of it if I never got billed in the first place? Isn't that their problem? and if I didn't send them a signed agreement, even though I accepted the meds (which they technically shouldn't have mailed to me if I didn't sign or pay anything) are they just trying to scare me into paying?

Don't just stop at the doc. When you have a child who is ill you are the only advocte that that child has. Call whoever the doc works with that is a social worker, and then call the drug company directly! Ask them why it has take them so long to bill you do not under any circumstances pay any thing until you have found out why the bill is just now surfacing.

when I did talk to the drug company she told me that she really didn;t know anything about it or something like that and these files got to her desk finally - she is in the end collection dept something like that. When I told her all of the items I have posted she is the one who said "I will talk to my supervisor about that" and never got back to me twice I did this - the girl before her said I had signed an agreement for this (the one I have-never signed it) the only paper I ever sigend with them was the original financial aid reuest which doesn't say anything about paying. I got a second bill from them & I tossed it I was so mad - then nothing until I got the collection letter.

sorry if I seem scattered...I am with all this! the first bill for $9000 was from the drug company. I talked to them ....asked them questions, etc. they never called me back with any kind of answers, etc. got a second bill from them called them, same as before - got 3rd bill and tossed it as they never called me back(all this way before CHrsitmas. then last week I got 2 calls asking for me or my son, with the message to call back. I did not, and 2 days ago , I got the collection letter for $14000 from RAB
I have not called them or responded in any way as I don't know what to do. I am trying to pay all my other bills and 2 college tuitions with no problems...I hve gotten myslef out of alot of debt from medical, and things were starting to look up, then this crap. I don't know whether to try & make payment arrangements on an agreed to lower amount - or fight it or what. thanks

As I said before call the doctor that was treating your son BEFORE DOING ANY THING ELSE. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING OR MAKE ANY ARRANGEMENTS UNTIL YOU DO. Then call the dreug company if you get not results from the doctors. This is not an antibiotic! This type of drug is carefully monitored and is only given out by certain physicians for children who must meet specific criteria. Call his doctor and the hospital - they will have records of when he was on the meds, for how long , and why the meds were discontinued.
