Why are you sending me a colection letter for something that aint mine. You say I owe your company $236.76 from 2004. There is like no way I can owe you people anything as I was in the pen for 6 year until 2005, so you all need to back off and take your charges somewhere else. Please delete my information from your company and leave me alone, I got enough problems.

Thank you

You say my account number is xxxxxxx, so figure it out yourselves because it isn't mine

This place came up on google because asset acceptance has been discussed in the forum, however this is not asset acceptance or any other credit agency.

Send a certified letter to the agency requesting validation of the debt, which they must provide if you ask for it. You have 30 days to do this otherwise the debt is considered valid. After you send the letter go ahead and call them requesting validation of the debt. You then can also send them a cease and desist letter if you wish, here is a site that has a copy of one you can send.

First I would go to www.annualcreditreport.com amd see what on your credit report. You can get a copy of your report for free once a year. 1 possibility could be identity theft if it indeed was while you were in prison. If you find asset acceptance on your report it should list dates, original creditor and such.Another possibility it could be a very old debt from before you went to prison and they reaged to 2004, which btw is illegal for them to do..

Anyway these are the very 1st step I would personally take if it were me.Feel free to keep posting with any information you can find out and we will try to help you out the best we can as what to do next.

Then theres probably a chance this was Identity theft and it needs to be disputed. Go to the link Taskmom gave in the above post and request a copy of your free credit report. If you see this is listed on your report they have links available for you to file a dispuit. Also what type of account are they claiming to be collecting for, did it list the original creditor on the letter?
