This is awful!! In the 11 years I've lived up north I have never seen this kind of snow or been this cold..We've got blizzard conditions, the roads are a mess, it's 8 degrees, and I'm freakin' stuck in the house!!

We have an avalanche in the driveway..I should try and clean it up so my husband can pull into the driveway when he gets home, but I can't shovel very well, I don't know how to run the snowblower, and it's too friggin' cold. I can't go running, and the treadmill isn't cutting it for me..I need to move!!!
I can't even watch NFL network, because the satelite reception is going in and out, I'm about to go up on the roof and clean the damn thing off!!

So am I just an overly dramatic southerner, or is the weather really this bad? How's the weather for you guys?

A recipe for breaking up congestion? LOL, I'm from the deep south, back there you would use whiskey and honey..Try it, it really does work...You can make a hot toddy..

Equal parts chamomile tea and whiskey ( southern comfort is my favorite)
honey to your taste

This actually tastes pretty yummy, you can put some milk and sugar in too..It's kind of a Gone With The Wind-esque remedy.

Absolutely right. My dad made me one years ago when I had a really bad flu. Got half way through the toddie, went to bed and woke up 4 hours later ... sheets soaking wet from sweating (I checked to make sure) and the flu was gone. But, my dad has passed on and I don't have the recipie and I'm in Utah. The state liquor stores are closed. I'm SOL

Sorry to hear about your morning, Fins! :-( I hope all is well now.

We've got the Hawaiian Smokie Links in one crockpot, the bbq chicken bites in the other crockpot, crackers & chips at the ready, shrimp, cheese, summer sausage, cheeseball & pop in the fridge...we're ready to roll when the game starts!

I forgot to mention the big ol' bottle of pre-mixed Mudslides in the fridge....FOR ME. ;-) That would work to break up congestion, maybe. LOL

Hope you feel better soon, Deb.

Yeah Sue, we're coming to your house to eat all of your food.

We ordered food from the pizza place....It's really cold outside, and I guess we're jerks for having them deliver it. Oh well, I didn't fill out the guys job application.

According to the weather report, it is ONE degree outside. With a wind chill of -14. That's CRAP! Thursday we're going to have a HEAT WAVE...It's going to be 25 degrees! I'm going to have to get some sunblock and a new bikini. It's going to be HOT out. :P

Hope everyone's having fun. We have the game on, but I haven't figured out what's going on yet.

Debtfairy--

When my daughter and myself have a bad cold with a cough, I've been buying Mucinex DM. It is really good. It has 600mg of guaifenesin(expectorant) in it for breaking up the cough and 30mg of cough suppressant. My doctor had recommended for me. It costs like $10 for a bottle of 20 extended-release tablets at Walmart.

DebtFairy - I know just how you feel - I woke up this morning not feeling up to par and the next thing - I feel like I am coughing a lung up! A good Irish hot toddy is a cup of strong black tea, 2 shots of a good Irish whiskey, honey and a splash of lemon. Now my old grandma used to also swear that rubbing vicks on the soles of your feet and putting socks on before bed would stop you from coughing all night. I am trying that tonight. I know that I don't have the flu I had a shot for that. I feel so crappy that I sent all of the food I made yesterday and last night over to my friends house for the party and I am going to bed!

I'm going to bed too. Guess the fairys are are the party poopers. If I don't feel better in the morning I going to run in to the Instacare for some serious antibiotics. I'm prone to bronchitis and once it really gets set in it takes weeks to get over.

Your hot toddies sounds somewhat like my dad's only I swear he had rum in it too. I could be mistaken. Wish dad was still living to tell me. My sister says he's hanging out at her house, so maybe I'll call and ask her to ask him for the recipe. (j/k) I have a sick sense of humor like the rest of my family!

I drove 2 1/2 hours to South Haven today to pick up my daughter and 2 hours back just so her Dad and Uncle could watch a friggin football game. I'm not a happy camper, but I'm still alive. I have lived in MI all of my life and I've never drove on worse roads than what I did today. 131 and 196 are a solid sheet of white ice. It was blowing so bad at times I may as well have been driving with a friggin blind fold on. I can't believe that I have to go back out in this in the morning. All that snow and these arctic temps won't allow the roads to clear. I have no friggin clue why I still live in this miserable state. I hate winter. I hate cold, I hate snow, and I hate driving in this mess.
Fins darlin I completely understand where you are coming from on this.

The majority of the schools in my area were closed today too, and my daughter is hoping they are tomorrow. I just heard on the news that they are expecting 3-5 inches of snow in my area starting Tues night. I hate this b/c, I have to be at work at 5:30am and the salt trucks are never out this early treating the roads :(

Schools closed here today too - too cold for the kids to stand outside and wait for the bus. Buses probably wouldn't even start - many people at work that drive diesel-fueled vehicles said the fuel gelled last night in the cold temps.

My parents live in a town where the tap water isn't drinkable due to pollution from an old chemical plant that has leached toxins into the city water supply. They get drinking water from a local artesian well, and asked me to fill their 12 1-gallon jugs for them today. My hands were purple when I got done - and about as close to frostbite as I ever want to get. Couldn't wear gloves and do the water at the same time. Tried to get the water this past weekend, but the pump froze up and couldn't get any!

I have had it too! Still no hot water in the shower and the kids are telling me that they are starting to feel skrody! I am with them! I have space heaters running in the bathroom to see if we can't defrost the hot water pipes and everytime someone wants to use the can I have to go in and shut off the heater and move it out in the hall! This sucks the big one! TI have been in this house over 30 years and this hasn't happened since 76/77 when we had all of those blizzards. I was my fault - I remembered to drip all of the faucets but the bath tub! DUH!! I can only hope that by morning the water will be on. Until then I told the kids that they will have to buff and fluff (sponge bath). I just got that look!

Oh Gosh, Irish..That sucks!! I think I would have to bite it and take a cold shower...BRRRRR!

Thank Goodness we have hot water..I saw the weather forecast, it's supposed to be up to 22 this weekend, with wind chills above zero!! I can't wait, that's a major warm-up!! I just hope that stupid groundhog was right.

You are lucky.

I never even saw snow in my life until we came up here to visit my Grandma in the winter when I was 15. I was floored!! Unreal!! I thought it was incredible!

I'll never forget when I first moved here in 1996. I thought this stuff would surely kill me...Turns out I hadn't seen anything yet.
