Good decision!! Pull your credit copies from all the bureaus and do a thorough check on each of the items. Find out if there are any incorrect items reported by the bureaus. They often make mistakes on reporting just because of handling millions and millions of files. Once you are able to get the incorrect negative items removed, your scores will go up.
Now, find out all the accounts on which you are behind in your payments and contact each creditor for payment arrangements. You should have the accounts "paid" for improving the scores.
