I am only 19 and I am drowning in debt. I moved in with a guy that I had been seeing for two years and things were going great when he told me that he was expecting a baby by another woman which devostated me as I am not able to have children of my own. he moved out and left me with all the bills, I was on SSI and I only made about $545 per month which is not even close to enouph to pay the bills esecially when rent was $485. I went and got a credit card so that I could keep my head above water and keep my phone on so that if in the event that something happened I could get help and considering that I am a cardiac patient that was so very important. so now the credit card is maxed out plus interest and there are bills that I couldnt pay cause it was maxed out. I got off of SSI because I couldnt afford for that to keep happening, I am now a care giver for an elderly lady and have an interview for JC Pennys photography studio on the 13th of Feb. If you could help me I would appreciate it so very much, Im not a bad kid by any means I just made the wrong decision, I have never been in trouble with the law and I dont do any drugs in fact I helped with a recovery group and prevention group in high school. I am currently about $1,967.88 in debt and while that may not seem like alot to some people it is huge to a 19 year old. Whatever you decision, I thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Sincerely,
Jessica D Love

Hi Jessica, and welcome to the forum! You are doing an admirable thing by trying to get your debt under control now, rather than let the situation get worse. Don't beat yourself up about your debt. There are people far older than you who find theirselves drowning in debt due to circumstances and bad choices. Correcting the problem this early in life will help you get back on track.

If you entered all of your details when you registered with this forum, a debt counselor should be contacting you shortly for a free, no-obligation debt consultation. They can discuss your situation and the options available.

Putting your debt in a debt consolidation program would probably be the the most advantageous to you, as the debt consolidation company could get your interest rate(s) lowered, late and overlimit fees waived, etc., and you would make one affordable monthly payment to the debt consolidation company, which they would then disburse to your creditor(s).
