Does anyone have any experience with AllianceOne, specifically a collector who goes by the names "Mrs. White" aka "Mrs. Chavez"?

They were collecting on one of my Chase cards in the beginning of 2005. This guy James Churchill used to leave me messages that were funny. He would say my name about 6 times, pausing for about 3 seconds in between, and getting succesively louder. Then he would scream that I need to call him before it gets worse. Last, he would repeat his phone number about 5 times.

One night about 10pm, I called the # back just to see what his voicemail sounded like. I *67'd my caller id and I didn't leave a message. The next day, he was leaving me a message that "I know you called me last night about 10pm, why don't you have the balls to call when I'm in the office?" I still don't know how he ever knew it was me calling.

I'm just now starting to deal with Alliance One. They're trying to collection on an old Visa card. My records indicate the balance owed on that card is about $3,600. A "Mrs. Ferguson" called me and told me that it was actually $6,700 but that, "by a miracle", they could settle for $3,500. I said I might be interested (after dealing with CAs for so long, I've gotten good at using "weasel words" that can't be used against me in court) but that I'd need a settlement letter in writing by U.S. Mail. They pressured me intensely, calling for a couple of days even after I told them clearly, "U.S. Mail" and even hung up on them once or twice after saying so.

The settlement letter, needless to say, never showed up, although I did receive the FDCPA-mandated communication shortly after their first phone call. I sent them a letter, CMRRR, asking for debt validation, after which "Mrs. Ferguson" left another message on my machine telling me that they had received my letter, and that, "once we've documented the debt, you will be responsible for the full amount due". She also said, "I don't know what you're doing," which I found rather peculiar. I haven't heard from them since.

I sent the DV only a couple of weeks ago, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what documentation, if any, they send me. The last CA that had this account made a feeble attempt to validate, but all they sent was a bunch of photocopies of old Visa bills that actually showed that the figure in my records was correct and theirs was wrong. I then told that CA that, for that reason, I was disputing, after which they apparently dropped the case.

If I dig out my old files...

AllianceOne Receivables Mgmt Inc.
1160 Centre Point Dr., Suite 1
Mendota Heights, MN 55120
(800) 279-3480

above is the address they listed for correspondence, but the return address on their envelope came from:
PO box 1961
Southgate, MI 48195

They kept sending me settlement letters for about 3 months in a row, saying they would settle at $2943 from $6541. I wish I had that kind of money back then because I would have settled. AllianceOne sent it back to Chase, and the last time I called Chase they wanted at least $4500 to settle. This is the only outstanding debt I have left.

I know companies have so many 800 #s available that they can use them for tracking. My company lists one number in the phonebook, another number in the newspaper, etc. We can pull reports based on which 800# was dialed, to see where people have seen our ad at. I always assumed they assigned me my own 800#, and they know I'm the only person they gave it to, so if they see it was dialed then they know it was me calling.
