I was wondering how long negative items (i.e. 30 days past due and KD\'s) stay on your credit report? If you pay them, does that help raise your score until they come off?

Negative items stay in the credit file for seven to ten years, from the date of first delinquency. It looks like you have recently defaulted in your accounts. Paying it will certainly improve your credit even though the negative item is already reported in your file. Someone seeing your file will understand that you took your responsibility and paid off the debts. Read this page for more tips on improving your credit ratings.
