Hi All--

I have 5 PDLs out, and have been lurking on this site to get more info... thank you all for all of your great posts.

My loan companies are:
Star Advance
E-Payday-loan
10 Dollar Payday Loan (MTE)
Impact cash
Smart choice cash
APN

Total every payday coming out was over $500-- we couldn't continue like that, so we closed our bank account and started with Langhorne Debt to help us get out of the payday loan trap.

I am very concerned about what will happen now. This whole thing has me so nervous. Anybody have experience with these lenders? I am concerned about voluntary wage assignments, I am not sure if we signed any, and I don't know how to tell now that we're already in default-- I never even heard of such a thing until I found this site!

Also, we're in NY, and thanks to this site I know that Payday loans are technically illegal in NY, but I don't think Langhorne is going to take that route. I wonder if I should try on my own?

Thank you all again for your help.

Corinn

Hi Corinn, welcome!

Don't worry, you are definitely not alone in the PDL hell...A lot of us here have been there, and lived to tell!

First of all..You probably signed wage assignments for most of your PDLS. They're really sneaky about that, it's possible you didn't even know. That's no problem, just send a revocation letter to all of them, and a letter of defense to your HR dept.

I never dealt with any of your companies, but someone here has, I'm sure. You can expect to receive phone calls, and some of them may be very nasty. They might make ugly threats, but remember they are only that. You are being proactive, you will come out of this, I swear.

Thanks for your reply :) It's always good to hear you're not alone!

I was considering sending the PDL's a letter saying that they're illegal in NY and that I've overpaid them, etc. Any ideas on how to word it? My brother works for the NY Atty generals office, and I am a bit reluctant to report the PDL's because I think then he'll find out about my problem... but I'd do it to be out of this mess.

Thanks for any insight!

There are so many people here that have been/are in your situation and so much good advice. With all the great information and advice I have received here, I have gotten 3 to mark my account PIF and one to send a refund. I have another one I should get a refund from, but whether or not I will is another story considering their "home office" is in Charleston, West Indies! But even the one refund was helpful. I still have 3 left, one that has not responded to me (even though I had their payement reversed, on that said since I revoked authorization I was going right to the collection agency, and I that has threatened me with collections and saying didn't matter what I did, they would still get my money). I am in NC and it is illegal here too. The ones that "threatened" me, I informed them that I was aware of their tactic and that they did not intimidate me. Armed with the information I received off of this site,I have been able to not be bullied into anything, so far. LOL Take the time to read some of the posts here and arm yourself so you can be strong for whatever may come your way.

You are definitely not alone. Most of us here have been involved in the payday loan nightmare.

You may want to reconsider letting your brother know about your problem, though. He may take an active stand against these companies since someone in his family has been affected by it. Besides that, you really should report these companies to your Attorney General if they are operating illegally. The more of a case we build against these companies, with our AG's help, the sooner they'll all be shut down. Just my 2 cents worth. The best of luck to you.

I agree with letting your brother know. He is in a good position to really be of some help and besides that, he is your brother and can offer some moral, as well as emotional support. Sure it might be a little embarrassing, but hey, no one is perfect and we all do things we are not proud of and that is ok. Besides that, what are families for if you can't turn to them in your hour of need.
