I have a debt that is owed to providian. It has been charged off. I have the money to pay it in full. What should I do? Should I call them and say that I will pay it off if they will submit to delete the charge off or change it to a paid as agreed? Also, I had two other debts I just paid off. I didn't think to ask about changing the status to paid as agreed? Anything I can do about those now that they are paid? Thanks

Call Providian and explain that you want to clear off the debts. Negotiate with them to remove their negative reporting in your credit report. By laws, they are not obligated to do this, but since they are the ones reporting to the bureaus, they can post positive remarks for your good.

Original Creditors can be tough but you are neg from strength because you want to pay. Only additional advice I would offer is push above if the phone drones are not doing what you want.Ask for a supervisor, retention or loss dept.,or mail to corporate.Make your point known that you want to pay but want something in return.

Do a google search on washington mutual/providian. It will give you the 800 number there, you can ask to speak to the collections department from there. I have an old account, they sent it to a collection agency who is now suing me. I just answered the summons, waiting on a court date. You may want to look at your credit report and see if it says sold to another collector. If it does the other collector should be reporting it somewhere on your report, they do on mine. It lists providian as a charge off, and then shortly after it shows cach/collect america as the report now. You may want to look at this. If they did sell it off, the original owner probably wont deal with you but the collectors might offer a settlement that would be cheaper. they buy up old debt for pennies on a dollar.
