I was wondering about a company called Stockwell Resources. I applied for a loan and they asked for $1000 up front because of my bad credit history. Is this company reputable?

Any company that wants you to pay money upfront is not a legit loan company. Tons of people have been scammed by companies like this.

Any reputable loan company would take any fees out of the loan amount. They would not require you to pay money upfront. If they thought you were too much of a risk they would require you to have a cosigner or put up some collateral (a car, etc . . . ) A real loan company knows that the reason you want a loan is because you don't have money just lying around . . . . Do not send them money, run as fast as you can away from these people. Just because the company name may not be known doesn't mean they aren't a scam. These companies change names frequently to avoid detection.

There are charges when taking a loan. The borrower knows it very well. A legitimate loan company will first put the principal amount in the bank account, then add their charges. This looks more real. Anyone who asks for money upfront should raise a red flag. You should always stay away from them.

I am kind of embarrassed on this one. I fell for something like that about 11 years ago. The company had an 800 number and I called. They called me back at work the next day telling me that I could get the loan but I had to send $500 through UPS not a personal check. So I went to my bank and got a check made out for $500 and drove 30 miles to the nearest UPS place and sent it on it's way. I had to call when I sent it. They in return faxed me papers that really looked like loan docs. I filled out the info and then faxed them back. They then called me when they got the check and told me my check would be on it's way using UPS also. Well when my check never came I called the number again and guess what... it was no longer in service. They had cashed the check. My bank checked to see where it went and it was someplace in NY. But come to find out they were really in Canada and the U.S. could not do anything about it.So now these people had ALL of our personal info. (ss#, addys, etc.) I don't remember the name of the company and I was very stupid back then (but desperate for money and had crappy credit)and didn't see the signs. I was out $500 and back then that was one weeks pay between hubby and I and we had 2 little ones back then. So whatever you do DO NOT pay up front for a loan. Because if you are having money probs. now, That will only make it worse. Go to a credit union, or even a finance company (they charged us 35% interest because of our credit) if you have not so good credit. But PLEASE don't do what I did back then.

I was approved through both companies. And Both companies "required" 10% down on my loan... I di dnot hear back from Stcokwell resources until I had already sent in all mor einfo for Mega City Services. They told me it owuld be between 5-10 days before my money would come, well it has been "ONLY" 7 and I am still waiting for it. But I'll tell you if I don't get it by monday afternoon, I will be on the first plane out there to rip a hole in someone.

Just to add to pdl's statement. There are charges on a loan. It's called interest and sometimes on major financing it's called closing costs. In these cases everything is documented upfront and you get your money upfront also. NEVER pay upfront for a loan. Not only are you out money, they also have enough personal info to steal your identity.

I cashed it and held on to it and low and behold it has come back NSF i am now transfering this over to my local police department because this is consider fraud.
