Did it go better or worse than expected?

Who was more accomodating to payment plans? Internet or storefronts?

What was the worst thing that happened?

The best?

How long did it take you to pay yours off and how many did you have?

Who was more accomodating to payment plans? Internet or storefronts? Storefronts were more accomodating, but in my state they have to accept payment plans. Internet ones are usually the hardest to work with.

What was the worst thing that happened? Continued harrassment from a few of the internet pdl's.

The best? One company told me they would mark me PIF without me even asking!

How long did it take you to pay yours off and how many did you have? I had 9 and it took me 3 months to clean them all up.

-I would say a little of both. I had 3 outstanding when I came here, 2 internet and one storefront. The storefront worked with me on a payment plan as required by state law, but was very up and down about it - one week they were nice and accepting my payment, then they were calling and threatening legal action if I didn't pay more than the agreed amount. The internet ones were nasty. Just flat out nasty. Constant harrassment on the phone at work and home, threats, yelling and horribly rude treatment. One of the internet PDL's pulled the trick that all of them seem fond of - changed their name and pulled the money they wanted out of my account in two separate debits on the same day - a total of $525 for a $200 loan.

-Storefront by a long shot, but still a little problematic, as mentioned above.

What was the worst thing that happened?
-Dealing with the manager of the storefront not complying with the terms of the payment arrangement, and the harrassment of the internet PDL's. There was no arrest, jail, garnishment or anything like that.

The best?
-The fact that the internet PDL finally gave up when I started fighting back and informing them of my state law and the fact that I knew they weren't licensed to lend in my state.

-I had three - 2 online and one storefront. I had paid several payments to the online lenders before I found this site and realized I was overpaying them and started fighting back. After about 3 months of payments and 3 more months of phone harrassment and fighting back against them, armed with the info I found here, they finally left me alone. The storefront ended up being included in my Chapter 13 bankruptcy when I filed.

It was much better then I could have thought..
I had both storefront and Internet.. once I saw the law they both backed off.. One storefront but 5 loans.. The internet one never even called after I said AG and Dept of Corp.. they all just went away and it took me 10 days to get the nerve and it was over...

I called 4 of my 8 storefront Payday Loan places and said I can't pay:

Check n Go said they'll deposit the check tomorrow. When it comes back I have 30 days to pay it off before it goes to collections and on my credit report

Cash 1 LLC-depositing my check. Collections will contact me for arrangements when it comes back

Loan Mart-same as Cash 1

Advance America-checking with corporate to see if they can hold check for 2 weeks without rollover fee. She'll let me know tomorrow.

I extended Fast Cash.

The others: Checkmate, ACE and Checksmart are due Sunday so I'll deal with them later.

I guess I'm relieved that I have a chance to pay these before scary stuff like wage garnishment goes into place.

It was really scary making those calls but everyone was nice enough.

Now the hard part....

Kristi, that's really good news.

I dealt with 6 internet PDLS last year..It went very smooth for me. I never had a storefront, I know they can be trickier, but at the same time more open to payment plans.

Pay them what you can and keep in constant communication with them. They will be way more accomidating if you let them know what's going on. It sounds like you're on the right track.

Kristi,
You have made a good start. I also dealt with Advance America and know they can be sticky. Keep on paying them what you can afford. In my case, I would get a "love note" from their corporate office every now and then, but once I called the store, it was usually OK.
I currently have one more payment to make on my last storefront and am working with Langhorne on 4 internet ones. I can tell you that it does get better. At one point, I also had 8 of them and am down.

Kristi - congrats on your start on the journey to becoming PDL free! You're well on your way. I'm glad you were able to work things out with the storefront lenders. They can be difficult to deal with sometimes, but for the most part, they'll work out a payment plan with you.

Keep us posted on your progress! :D

Kristi--

You stated that you have a storefront with Checksmart. I don't know what state you are in, but I'm in OH and I'm dealing with them right now. They are very aggressive and will tell you that want the payment in full. They are licensed under Buckeye Check and they are a member of the BBB. I've been dealing with this one collector that is basically just threatening and harassing me. It could be different for you though, but I just wanted to give you the heads up!!

I opened up a new checking account at another bank.

I'm going to move my direct deposit over after my next check(which will be consumed by NSF fees).

Apparently the bank paid the Cash 1 loan because they ACH'd my account instead of submitting the check. I called the bank and they said thay can't return it.

I also have a direct deposit advance with the bank so between all that I won't have a check and will still be in the hole next payday. I'm not too worried about it at this point though.

I'll deal with things as they come... :(
