You aren't obligated to go with them, I advise doing your research to find the company with the lowest fees, and to make sure they won't just take advantage of you.

Depending upon the total amount of debts that you owe, there are options like consolidation or settlement plan, using which you can become debt free.

Consolidation is the best option if you want to remain current in your payments and have one monthly payment for all your bills. You will be getting lower interest rates in your repayments. However, if you want the lowest repayment plan, debt settlement is suitable, but your accounts will need to be in default for a certain period of time before the settlement company puts proposals with your creditors and negotiates for a reduced amount. You need to speak with a counselor and figure out the best plan according to your situation.
