Can someone tell me exactly what it means when my credit report says "Seriously past due date/assigned to attorney, collection agency, or credit grantor's internal collection department"? Is this the same as a charge off? I have a card last paid on from 10/2003 and am got served to appear in court or call for a settlement. If anyone has any offerings, it would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks,
JG

Yeah, sounds like it was charged off to me.

Charged off does not mean that you don't need to pay it anymore, a charge off is the accounting practice of moving your account to the "bad debt" ledger, so to speak. The debt is still valid for collections, and interest may continue to accrue based upon the contract you had with the creditor.
