Those with a PDL problem - Please Read

Heck,
If we went by seniority,I'd be screwed because I have not made 4 months yet.I can not relate to the individual experiences that people have gone thru here. I found this site while doing google research for posting on one of my other boards I was posting on. I read a lot of posts here and decided to take the plunge to spend my time here helping people to understand their legal rights. I don't pretend to know everything and I am weak on pdls and on debt plans. I am strong on credit reports and collections. I fully expected to be banned when I starting posting here for my bluntness,my strong attitude,and just being quite different from the normal poster here.

When Mike asked for debt samaritan,I was like are you sure? I am pretty blunt when posting what is legal and what isn't!
I questioned same when asked for mod. I do not want to get some of the senior hands upset here.I truely love this board and it makes me happy to help people who are truely in need. I realize I am very new in rank and ask for the patience of older hands. I try not to post against the grain of a topic unless I have factual basis to add to it. Yall have a good night.

I for one will no longer be posting responses to pdl questions. I don't need the criticism and I sure as heck do not need somebody telling me to verify my information. I totally agree with Mishele.

Please steelers, don't say this. You will not like seeing people having problems with pdls and when you are not answering their questions. Their will be a weight in your heart because you will remember today and refusing to help someone in need when you want to.

Goudah and cajunbulldog. I just want to say that I am very new to this and I have gotten advice from both of you, and I appreciate it very much. I am slowly working through this, and you guys gave me a place to start. Thank you!

Your welcome. That is what this site is for, helping people with their debt problems. I didn't know people would get so updet because I posted this. Oh well . . . . I know I have the right intentions, so I'm not going to worry about what people that don't know me think, and just concentrate on helping people where I can.

I guess I will have to be the bad member here and add my two cents worth. Heck when I first came here I did well to have two cents. LOL Goudah I agree with you on the point about the Attorney Generals. They absolutely should be contacted FIRST!!!! I think Steelers has always advised to this point. There may be people on here that do give advice to recite laws and get refunds I dont know? I know this to be a fact you will not hear that advice from any of the people that have put there heart and soul into this site. I owe my sanity to so many of these people even though when I came here I already had help from my AG> Polly, Sue, Fins, Mishele, Jessi, Tammy, Ari, Karen, Roadwarrior, Clay, I know I will leave somebody out and if I do forgive me I just want you to know a few of the people that are the backbone of this community. I personally myself have worked countless hours in this fight. I have never felt like I give bad advice. Most of these people have spent many more hours than I have and I have never seen any evidence of bad advice from them either. There impact has been great on many peoples lives. This forum allowed me to help people and thats what I plan on continuing to do. I DESPISE PAYDAY LOANS and I will go down fighting them. They are PREDATORS and there is nothing ETHICAL about any of them. KYSIDE38

And for the record, I respect and value everyone on the board, old and new--and appreciate the help I have received in the spirit it was intended.
While there are indeed a few lawyers on the board, most everyone is basing their help on the "this is what worked for me" principal, which is all we can expect.

Kyside - I agree with you. I really didn't mean for any of the members that really contribute to this site to think I was referring in any way to them. I meant it more as a guide for newcomers. I hate the drama and I hate being blamed for something that I didn't intend to convey. All the people that have resonded to this message give wonderful advice. Their advice comes from either their experiences or their research, and I can't think of a time I saw anything incorrect in any of their posts. I just wanted to tell people that they should consider checking out points of law and other pertinent information before they put things in writing to a pdl. And to make sure everyone was involving their ag's office, so maybe one day pdl's will be gone.

I thought I was just putting some general points all into one thread. I didn't know it would blow up as it did.

Okay I was just browsing the posts and came across this one. I have to put my two cents in, not that my opinion matters, because I'm just starting to get out of the mess I created. But let me say for anyone that has not liked what goudah was saying, she is right. Like the information I got about the laws in my state, seems they didn't apply to IPDL just to the storfronts. And yes goudah, I have to "toot your horn" for you. Goudah has come to my aid, by calling my state banking dept. and getting the information I needed for me because I had other things I needed to attend to. How many others can say they have done that for someone that is lost, scared, and doesn't have a clue where to begin? You just keep doing what your doing Goudah as well as the many others who offer the same advice.

PLENTY OF US can say that we have done that for others here.

Guess I will add my thoughts to all this....I have not been here too long either, maybe a month, but I think this whole thing has gotten a out of hand. I came on here and did reading before I joined and I looked at all the people that were willing to help others, share their experiences and their stories and offer advice and such, that I decided to become a member and see if I could get some help too, which I did. I listened to everyone's advice and then took what I needed and applied it to my situations and now I am on my way to getting somewhat back on track. I have had a lot of support and encouragment from all the wonderful people here. That is what has been important to me, the support and encouragment and knowing that I am not alone in my situation and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have read the stories of people fighting thier way our of their debt and thought, hey if they can do it, so can I. There are those of you that know the laws better than I and know about how to get other information about the banking systems better than I and are a little more knowledgeable than I in other matters. Everyone here is fighting the same thing,....getting out of debt, fighting the PDL companies, and making things better from everyone. That is why I am here and why I am staying....I want to be able to help others also. I may only be able to share my experiences and offer support and encouragment to others, but that is something. I can offer advice as to maybe try this or maybe try that or try looking here or there for help. Sometimes I might be right and sometimes I might be wrong. No one is 100% right all the time and no one is 100% wrong all the time either. There have been things I have read that I might not have agreed with, but that is ok. That is what makes the world go round. Everyone here has been an inspiration to me....each and every one of you. It saddens me to see all this going on here. One person made a suggestion about double checking things, well that isn't bad advice. Maybe some things that was written could have been worded a little differently or maybe a little more clarification might have been needed, but I, personally, did not feel that it was an attack on anyone in particular. I know that we all sometimes think that something that is said or written is about them, when in reality it isn't. A lot of "newbies" such as myself, may try to help someone and just not get something right as far a quoting the laws or something else, even though we might have the best of intentions, which could lead someone to do something they shouldn't. That is where someone who is more knowledgeable may step in and maybe help out a little more to keep that from happening. Most people would not take offense in that. Might feel a little bad for not having things correct, but people learn from their mistakes. I know if I made a mistake, I would sincerely hope that someone would let me know, (without malice I would hope). I would know more of what I was talking about the next time.

I truly feel that all this bickering back and forth, blaming people for things and everything is taking away from the reason people, (like me) are here. You guys are great and each of you contribute so much to this board. I feel it is like a family here. Sometimes families have disagreements, but there has been an apology, so let's move on from here. I am asking all of you to please let this go and let's continue to do our best to make the world a better and debt free, (with no PDL's), place.

If I have offended anyone, I apologize ahead of time. I just felt I had to speak up and share my thoughts about this.

Thank you, each and everyone of you, for helping me and teaching me and letting me become a memeber of your "family". I hope that I will be able to be as much of an inspiration to others as you all have been to me.

Well put 2nband! It is kinda like a family thing, and like all families there will be disagreements. So now can everyone just give a big group hug and make up, like family does? Pleaseeeeeeeee!!!1

I just want to say that I really appreciate everyone here....I can't tell you all what a comfort and relief it is to find such a helpful and supportive community. Debt (especially PDL debt which I am dealing with right now) is stressful! Also, I am quite sure that goudah did not intend to hurt anyone's feelings or accuse anyone. She's been very kind and helpful to me, and I think her repeated apologies are proof that she didn't mean to cause drama.

Sandy I am happy you found help.. but dont short change the others that have been here a long time and have help others in the same way or more Steelers been around a while with more then 3800 post to her name and trust me she has use most of the post to help.. she sure took me under her wing and helped me out.. I agree that Goudah is helpful BUT not the only helpful person on this board.. K my .02

Everyone on this board is helpful. Not one, not two but all of you. Even a new person who comes on this board for the first time and shares his/her experience, guess, s/he is also doing some help for others by telling about the personal situation and making others feel that "you are not alone." Isn't that a big help to many? I am sure it is. We all make this place growing by our own individual ways because of our presence.

This might have been posted somewhere in this thread, but it won't hurt to repeat it.

Everyone who comes on here and posts either has or had a debt/credit problem and wants to either fix the problem or help someone else in the same predicament. Everyone is going to give the advice that worked for THEM---it is then up to the individual to act on the advice or ignore it--its up to you.

WE ARE ALL FIGHTING THE SAME FIGHT HERE---lets not spoil it and bicker because we misinterpreted someone else words or intentions.

I understand what the post was meant for. Goudah had ABSOLUTELY no intention of offending anyone. I admire her initiative in speaking up.

We've all been burned so many times. I don't think there's any of us "old-timers" who haven't had our share of "hate posts". I guess we all have to know our strengths...I know there is probably no one else on this board who understands garnishments like I do..It's what I do for a living! Mishele and Steelers have been through so many rounds with PDL companies that they know their stuffinside and out..FYI and Ari know collections. We all have something to offer..I'll be the first one to admit that I don't know hard facts about PDLS, I just know I lived through it, and the first person here who helped me out with my mess was Mishele. I'll forever be grateful for that.

I am just going to have confidence in the fact that I know I've helped out a lot of people on this board..Look how many posts I have!..And I will continue to do so.

Wow people are really opinionated on here.

We are share a common goal: getting out of a debt and we all are trying some method.

We have a large community of different personalities here, and there are bound to be conflicts when someone says something that may be viewed by another as insulting or offensive. Perhaps the member posting it didn't mean it to be that way, but everyone interprets things with their own viewpoint, and what is just a general comment to one may be seen as offensive to another.

All of us do our best to help others here. I fully agree with a point made by another here - it's not one or two of us that do it - it's all of us as a community, and as we grow larger, there are going to be "growing pains", some will stay and some will leave. I know we can get past this current drama and work together for the greater good of the community.

I told myself I was not going to post on this topic again but here I am. Am I opnionated? Yes, I am. I hate to see Steelers not posting on the topic of payday loans. She has been a big asset on this subject to me and several others here. I understand that is her decision but I also want her to know that her knowledge is so great!!!! Fins, thank you for the kind words. I just want to help people who are going through what I've went through. KYSIDE, has been a big help to me on this as well. We share one lender in common... Have I been wrong in some of my postings? I'm sure I have. Yet, I know this is something that I have been through and I'm not going to let anyone take that away from me or from others who have trudged the same road.

It's a common bond that many of us share. I feel like I've made some great friends here and I truly value that. From the pdl mess, came some strong and lasting friendships. Even though I haven't met anyone in person, I've been offered guidance and support in one of the roughest years of my life.

Yes---We are opinionated on here. It is a community where everyone should feel free to post their opinions without reservations, BUT--keeping in mind that when voicing your own opinions you have to be ready and open-minded enough to listen to other opinions respectfully. And most people on here do that---don't ever be afraid to say what you feel and if you are questioned about your opinions, be ready to defend your reasoning.

I feel so blessed to be here. I have made incredible friends here too...There've been times when I came on here at night and "hung out with the girls" and had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard. When my husband was in the hospital last summer I got so much support here. Anything that happens in my life, good or bad, it's you people that I bring it to right after my husband.

I think this could end up being a very healthy thread.

I'm with Fins and Mishele! I have made alot of friends here, who have been so supportive, not only when I came here, but this past year from hell!! I have had so many pms and e-mails and support during this last year. And if it wasn't for people giving me direction and experience they had, I don't know what I would have done!! Guys, I couldn't resist from posting here. I am really touched by everyone's feeling and showing their love for each other. One family has many members and each of them will have their own way of thinking. We cannot stop talking to someone in the family who presents differently. We all are a part of this family and we look better when we join with each other. Disturbances happen and love heals up everything. We may fight inside our house but when someone from outside comes and insults anyone of us, we all join together as a family. This is our identity and it cannot be separated. I am missing Steelers. I haven't talked to her since quite some time. I will be happy to see her saying something. :)

We are all fighting for our rights and becoming debt free, this can become a reality when we work together. When people are in an environment (even a cyber-environment) where their views are accepted, then it makes them feel accepted, loved and secure (yes, just like in a family). And like Mike posted above---do you dismiss a family member when you don't like what they say? Well, not in my family we don't---we discuss it or yell it out, everybody has their say and the persons involved ultimately do what they have decided to do (or say as the case may be). If I dismissed my brother every time I got pissed off at him---oh well, I am sure you get the picture, I love the big turdhead even though he can tick me off royally.

Lorri ~ sounds like things between me and my brother. Even though we are grown now, we can still fight like cats and dogs. He is such an a$$ sometimes and there are times I will swear that I will never talk to him again, but I don't stay mad forever, just until the next time, and end up talking to him or cutting his hair or babysitting or something. But no matter how mad we get at each other, we are always there if the other really needs something. Sometimes we just need a little time to get over what we are mad about and then we go on from there.

Exactly! I can fight (argue) with him and scream and yell, but in the end we don't stay mad long. My brother-in-law (a royal ass) said "you're brother is so stupid!" I said "maybe, but you're an inlaw and he's blood so don't even start with me, I can say what I want and you can't, so stop before you start".

I am very new to this site, but if nothing else, it comforts me to know that I am not the only one going through difficult times. Last year I had nine pdls at one time. I didn't think there was a way out for me. Through lots of prayers and hard work, I have gotten all but two of the pdls paid. I honestly was so ashamed of the predicament I had gotten myself into. I thought, "no one is as stupid as I am taking on this many of these things." I now see it wasn't stupid, but desperate...and I am not the only one. That is the biggest thing with people, needing the support of others and if nothing else for someone to say "its okay. You're not alone in this!" Anyways, jsut thought I would say a quick thanks to everyone if for nothing else than just being there to try to help!

I have been here for a while and it is comforting to know that there are actually people who care about me and where I go with my loans. It feels good to know that I am not alone.

I never had any debt problems. I came here to help others with some of the research skills I have and if I am clueless,to point them down the correct path. I really enjoy the time I spend on this with the only exception of dealing with collectors hiding behind guest usernames.That gets old very quick.

Everyone's time is limited and those type of posts really do take away from time we could spend helping someone who is in need.

Staying here for sometime, I started to have this feeling that I know some of you very well. I haven't seen anyone of you, but still there is something that makes me turn on my computer, open a browser and click on this website from my bookmark. I remain curious to know about some people here with whom I communicate regularly through PMs. There is something here that happens only in a family. We quarrel, we disagree, we love and we stay together. This is all part of life.

This is for Goudah2424s posts on March 13th. I was feeling better but now I am nervous again. Is it true that if we are threatened with arrest that this will not happen or was the advise that we will not be arrested wrong. Also is it true that we have the right to have the debt validated before we pay these people or is this also bad advise. Please help.

It all depends on what your state laws are. If you start a thread we can all look at your situation there. Or if you have already started one just direct us to it. I'm by far not the only one with good advice here . . . .

You are all correct. There is no easy solution and in all instances you will have to pay off the PDL loans eventually, the question really is how is the best way to do so that someone breathe and live in the process.

Guest- Alot of companies threaten arrest, agrnishment,etc. The truth is, they cannon take your check without a judgement. You cannot be arrested and thrown in jail for debt, unless you are doing something illegal, like passing bad checks!! What companies are you dealing with,credit cards, pdls? We may can give you a little more info pertaining to your state if you tell us more. Understand, that all states have different SOL periods, regulations, etc., so it's important to know your state before a blanket answer can be given..Keep us posted..KAren
