I hear horror stories all the time about people getting calls at work from PDL's trying to get their money. I am closing my bank account tomorrow and next week will be starting a new account so they can't take my money anymore. I have contacted T&C and they will be helping me with my debt but I am afraid that the companies will still be going after me at work and all. Is this true? Will they still be going after me even if I am working with a consolidation company or is that only if I were to stop paying them altogether once I have paid off my principal and what I owe them in general. My biggest worry is Route 66 because I have heard it several times on here about how they called people's work harrassing them and what not. If they call my work and do that I will probably get fired, I'm in management and shouldn't be getting calls like that.

I went back and checked some messages that they had sent me before "payment reminders" and on that file it has my cell phone listed on there twice, as my home and work. So I'm thinking that MAYBE I had it switched to use my cell as both my cell and work. Crossing my fingers. Will I have that problem with other companies that I DID give my work number to?

The only number I could change it to would be the "employment verification" number which is just for the company to provide to lenders to verify, its not actually my work number. But other than that we only have one number with hundreds of lines on that one number ( i work in retail). I'm hoping that they will change it without checking it first. Do you think they will actually delete my real work number or just add that as another?

yeah i didn't want to do that though because sometimes i work at the other ones as well, so they would probably just redirect them to my home store........the number i gave them is employment verification and its just a recording at first so they wont be able to get to me, just verify my employment with target, which they already knew about anyway

If it's any consolation, Kim, I've dealt with Rt. 66, and their threats to call and "verify employment" never came to pass. They called me many times at work and home, but never called my supervisor, HR department, Payroll department, or anyone else at work about my loan with them. They threatened to, but they never followed through.

Yeah, that's why I was scared of Route 66 because when trying to approve my loan they called for like three or four days, five or six times a day at work, and like you said had a hard time saying the name in bad english. That is what worried me though that they would try again. I called all the companies I am dealing with and gave them my employment verification number as my work number, hopefully that helps, they can't get much but a recording haha. I hope they replace that number because none of my loans are in default yet, but when they try and take out of my account next friday, they will be surprised. By the time they try a second time though i'm sure T&C will already be dealing with them.

The only other number they have is my cell number, which I could care less about because I will be switching companies soon anyway. My coverage ends the end of March and I will be switching companies, they can do what they want. But as far as T&C, they consolidated all my debts which included Route 66

I only have ten dollars until my next payday because they wiped my whole check out with their interest that they were charging me on my last payday. The bank I was going to be transferring to there is 50 minimum to open an account. As far as I know though my account will be completely closed before they try and send it through so I don't think they can make it negative. Is that true or no? Do you know of any banks that you don't need a big deposit to start an account, if need be I have my direct deposit that I can bring to that account as well, I just don't get paid again till the 23rd.

Even if the other account goes negative she will still be able to open a new account elsewhere. Even if you are reported to chexsystems you can still open accounts. I have a alist of banks in each state that you can open accounts with even with problems at other banks.

Even if you beat your chexsystems report (open another account before the last bank reported you) most banks that use chexsystems do sweeps on new accounts for at least 90 days. So that won't necessarily work. It all really just depends on the bank.

It all depends on your banks policy. Some banks force open closed accounts if ach trasactions go through within 30 days or so.

I'd call you old bank and see what their policy is. If they do something like that, I would ask them to put a hold on the account so no one can put anything through and the account will stay closed.

When I spoke with them today about closing my account I told her the situation and how they would still be trying to take out the money and that is why I am doing this. She said that it was fine and that I had nothing to worry about. I wanted to make sure so I wrote down her ID number and who I was talking with. She would have said something about force opening my account if that were the case, I would assume. I go through National City I Don't know if you know anything about their policy or not.

Now that you warned me I am going to call my back right now to find out what there policy is. Are there any other specific questions you have that would be good for me to ask in this situation? I just want to make sure that I have all the grounds covered and that I won't be paying for it later. Thanks goudah!

You can let them know ahead of time, if you suspect this will happen. You can also file a dispute and get your money back if it does happen, I have to go file a dispute on Monday. Worldwide was paid off back in december and just decided to debit my account. I called them and they confirmed they were paid of on 12/2/2006, just a glitch in the system. They said they would refund me along with nsf if my bank would confirm it with them. It is just easier to go file a dispute on the bank end of things.

Kim---I read the post you made above the same way---like you had no home---glad to hear you DO. When I first went with T&C and before they got proposals back from the PDLs, I did get calls at work. They forward any teacher's calls to their voice mails during school hours. So I never had to talk to anybody personally (except on occasion), when I did speak to someone, I just kept referring them to T&C. If they were really persistent and harrassed me at home, I would just pretend that "Lorri" wasn't there and take a message.

Can you give a heads up to whomever answers the phone at work or do you answer your own phone?

No I'm a manager so I have someone working under me who answers the phones but I can get in trouble for getting so many "personal" calls as they are not permitted by the management above me. Hopefully it worked when I called all of them and gave them my "employment verification" line and told them that my dept had changed. I'm crossing my fingers that it worked.

If you tell them you can not receive calls at work, then they are not supposed to call your place of employment. That goes for original creditors. But a cease and desist won't work on an original creditor.(Had to throw that in there before somebody posts a cease and desist doesn't work on an original creditor)

When I went to my bank to close the account I was told that sometimes ACH Debits can reopen a closed account so they put a suspected fraud alert on my account so that no debits at all can be made, only credits. Just thought this information might help someone.
