I have credit cards that have went into collections and one that has been filed as a civil complaint.
Im 18 years of age and live on my own in an apartment. I have only one job and currently right now as of 3/16/07 i have only 4 dollars to my name. I have a total of 2500 in debt concerning credit cards and 800 in withdrawn and closed bank accounts. I recently located from GA to AL and lost my job and had no way to pay these back.
i would appreciate and help at all.

Lets see I used a company called the Freedom Point..look them up on the web thefreedompoint.com but some others are Consumer Credit Counselors of America, Town and Country...There are a lot..also in your home town you probably have a few that are non profit...Look in your phone book and see who they have to offer...

Have you been contacted by someone from this message board regarding what your options are? If not, until then, we all may be able to help.

What kind of debts do you have? Loans or credit cards or both? You say you only have one dollar to your name and you live in an apartment by yourself. That has to be tough. I have done that myself for three years while I was in school and believe me, things can get pretty tight. Do you have any relatives that live close to you that you can live with for a while until you get your finances back in order?

I would also recommend that you consider a debt consolidation program or you may want to consider the Do It Yourself program found on the link located on this website. It offers you sample letters and suggestions on how to eliminate your debt.

I too use a debt consolidation company called Town and Country (most notably T&C). Most debt consolidation companies charge a fee for their services to start, which is why I recommend that you do it yourself.

Gather all of your debts and total the amount that you owe on each of them. Then find the tools on this website to send out sample letters to each of your creditors which will specify what amounts you can pay and when. You must contact your creditors! There are some that are willing to work with you if you let them.

I wouldn't recommend bankruptcy at this point unless you cannot pay any of your debts completely. I would not recommend bankrutpcy period because it appears on your credit report for ten years and it is difficult sometimes to get credit or to get a decent credit card rate.

I hope that this helps you and please list your creditors that you owe. You may also research your creditors on this website. There are alot of great tools here that can help you get to where you need to go. You have come to the right place.

Hi brendandailey

Your most important requirement at this stage is to find a job and get hold of your necessary expenses and other living stuff. If you don't have any income, any program is not going to help because you need to make the monthly payments in the plan. The counselor will review your financial situation and offer an easy repayment plan. You need to calculate how much you have to pay each month and other expenses. Your total earning should be more than your expenses to carry on a normal living cycle.
