I was a dumb teenager. I took more credit cards than I could pay. Now that I have a good job, i want to fix what i did, but I am living on my own and paying for everything myself. I cannot afford what the creditors want me to keep paying. I need help

Ok,
First thing to do is make a list of your outstanding debts along with your monthly living expenses.Next make a list of your monthly income. Send this list to the retention or loss mitigation dept of each creditor. You will have to call each one for address. In your letter outline what your income is vs debts and list a proposed payment that you can afford to make. If they are in agreement, ask them to sign letter and mail you a signed copy for protection of your interests.

You have to clear all your outstanding debts for improving your credit ratings. Since you are unable to afford with the existing interest rates, you can enroll into one of the debt management program and pay the debts through an easy repayment plan. The counselor will call your creditors and put proposals according to your present financial situation. They will arrange a lower interest rate and waive off the late fees from the total balance. This program will allow you more saving and pay other necessary bills.

Go to this link and you will read some valuable tips on credit repair.

When I was a teenager, my debt hell began as well to the point where at the age of 24 I had to file bankruptcy. I spent years and years in debt. But eventually you get out of it, hopefully learn something and move on.

What you need to do is contact each of your creditors and see if you can make some kind of payment arrangements with them that you can afford.

If that plan does not work, list all of your bills and contact a debt consolidation company. There are many of them on this board that people have had success with. The only pitfall with a debt consolidation company is that you have to pay a fee upfront to get started. So explore those options.

There is this great Do It Yourself link on this message board that gives you great tips and sample letters whereby you can do it yourself. It is cheaper and maybe just maybe these companies will be willing to work with you.

What kind of credit cards do you have? How much do you owe on them? How long have you been in debt with these companies?
