Please help me on this collection item

I received a letter, just like the ones stated above, saying I owe Tate & Kirlin over $400.00 and that they would settle for a little over $200.00, but here's the thing, I've never been late on ANY kind of bill in my life, and it bothers me to even have $200.00 on my credit card, let alone over 4 hundred dollars, I don't have the slightest idea of what in the world they're talking about. The letter did not say who I bought $400.00 worth of merchandise, or borrowed a loan from. I am really confused about this letter, to say the least. Are these letters legit? or should I contact someone for abuse?

did it have a number on the letter that you could call and get more about the bill or even a copy of the so called bill. i wouldn't pay anything until i found out more about it and you might want to also get a copy of your credit report someone may have stolen your idenity.

Blinkberry is right. You should obtain a free credit report and see if it is on there. And if it is, dispute it. I was successful in getting items that were irroneously put on my credit report taken off. Get your annual free copy, you may find other items you don't know about yet. Good Luck.

I recently printed off a copy of my credit report and no such unpaid biil was present on it, so I don't really know what they're refrencing, but I mailed out a letter today asking for more info on this so called debt. Thank you all for the advice.
