I haven't dealt with car insurance myself in awhile, but in the past I dealt with 21st Century and they were okay for me anyway. My daughter and here husband are younger like you and they deal through "esurance" and he has had a couple of tickets. Maybe someone else will post and offer another solution.

My point though Kim was that I haven't heard them complaining about it, so maybe it is an okay one. Can't hurt to check it out.

I just checked it out for the car I was looking into financing......... I don't know if I did something wrong but it says it will be 757 / month. I don't think I can afford something that's like 7 times my car payment for one month! lol. I'll have to go back and recalculate that one... haha

Hi Kim - if I remember correctly, you're in Michigan, right? I am too, and I'm going through Fremont Insurance. They're a Michigan-based company, coverage quotes are available at most Independent Insurance Agencies (which is not a company or agency name - it's an affiliation which means they don't represent just one company, but many, which gives you better choices for coverage). I was with Progressive when I started investigating other companies because Progressive wouldn't offer the coverage I needed for my conversion van - Fremont not only offered the coverage, but at $400 less per policy term than Progressive.

Oh, and Kim, just a note. Don't ever try to drive without insurance in Michigan. They arrest people for that here. No warning, no ticket and drive away - they arrest them, fingerprint them, and they have to pay bail before they are released. And the fines are pretty substantial.
And just an extra note - happy birthday on Monday! :D

Kim- SueBee is right, sometimes if you go through a stat based company, like a Michigan based one, it's cheaper. We have Allstate, and for 5 drivers4 cars, and a son that was underage, one that was unmarried, and 2 full coverage-it was 200 something a month. It's not that much now because my youngest is off the policy. Sometimes if you take a safe driving course, make good grades, etc, they give discounts..Good Luck..KAren

I'm not in school right now so I don't get the good student discount that has been on many of the policies. For a lot of the insurance quotes i'm getting from ones online its like 300-700 a month for the quotes which is outrageous. I'm almost thinking I'll have to go with the 300/month one and then switch later if I find a cheaper one. But I will look into Michigan based insurance companies. I looked into the one that I used to have but they quoted me at like 450/month. I will try others though. Thanks for all your help and birthday wishes:)

Most definately, shop around. The insurance company I have used for years just jacked up my policy for taking off my car and putting on the one I just bought. Wanted to charge me $65 for the switch and RAISE my premium, mind you the coverage stays the same as the other car. I call Allstate, quoted me a SIGNIFICANT lower premium and SIGNIFICANT lower down payment, I can't wait to cancel my policy at the end of the month and start with AllState (whose policy which is lower each month and providing me better coverage). I guess what I am saying is you are wise to shop around.

One other issue which is going to cause you to pay a much higher premium is your age. You will see your monthly premiums go down once you reach the age of 25.

Oh I have been for a few weeks..... but tomorrow is the day I go in to sign for my car so I have to get the insurance by then IF I do get the car after all... that's why I'm wanting even more. I think I've already had like 20 quotes and like you said because of my age they are all outrageous but I guess I just have to deal with it for a few years. It doesn't help that I do have a ticket from almost two years ago that still is haunting me as well.

Kim, where are you in Michigan?
I'm in Holland, and there's a really good west Mich company in the Holland/Zeeland/Grand Rapids area called Wolverine. My husband had careless driving, and they gave him great rates, a lot cheaper than Progressive.
Wow, you are so close! I live in Grand Rapids, work in Jenison.

You haven't seen anything yet hun.........I'm from up north Michigan originally, just down here because of my school. Go up north a few hours, especially near the lake, where I'm from and you'll REALLY freeze. lol.

I was born and raised in Manistee......town right off the shores of northern Lake Michigan, I guess that's why I'm used to it........ just don't go to the Upper Peninsula anytime you two, you definitely won't like that weather! haha.

When I was a kid my Grandparents had a cabin in Mio, right by Gaylord and Rose City. My brother and sister and I used to come up north in the summer for 2 weeks and stay there. It was right on the Au Sable river and absolutely gorgeous!!
Michigan is frigid, but it is very very pretty.

I love Michigan too, a lot of people don't like it because of the weather but I grew up here and I really miss my home town. It's the "Victorian Port City" and it has a downtown that is so gorgeous, especially down by the channel and lake michigan. I love Michigan but if I were to ever move out of state I think it would definitely be Tennessee. It's gorgeous there too....not to mention I could find myself a hot cowboy to marry. haha.

LOL - you two are great! :-)
Kim - I've lived in both - south and north - Virginia and Michigan. I came back to Michigan after about 16 years in Virginia, and I never plan on leaving again. This is home. Virginia has no lakes to swim in, summers are horrendously hot and humid, and I lived too far from the ocean to even get to see it once in 16 yrs. I like being just moments from a small lake, and an hour or so from the Great Lakes!

You might check Geico insurance - thats who we have and have good luck with them and they seem affordable. (If you want cowboys you need to come to my neck of the woods here in good ole' Texas!) I'm with you - gotta love those wranglers, hat and boots.

I have a 20 year old with 2 accidents and Auto Club sky rockteted.. so I want to esurance... ( not sure if ava in your state) but my rates dropped alot... like 300%
also in Cal we have a high risk policy that insurance companies must take you on with affordable rates ( if on your own).. each Company MUST take a % of the high rick drivers.. check you Insurance Commisioner and see..
it can save you a lot of money

I don't know if it's different state by state, but e-surance was crazy high for me. The quote I got for the newer car I was looking at was like 750/month. Outrageous!

It is different state by state. Every state has it's own auto insurance regulations. For example:
Michigan is a no-fault insurance state. If you crash into someone, causing damage to their car and injury to the car's occupants, THEIR insurance pays for it. They can take you to small claims court to get their deductible back, up to 4250, but other than that, they are on the hook for the damage you caused.
In a tort insurance state (like Virginia, for example), if you crash into someone's car, causing damage to their car and injuring the occupants of the car, YOUR insurance covers their damage and injuries. And if the damage and injuries are severe enough to exhaust your auto coverage, or you do not have coverage at all, they can sue you for their loss.
I find no-fault insurance to be the most unfair form of all, but that's just my $0.02.

not sure if you wnet through with insurance or not, but with a higher deductible, you might save a few dollars. If I remember correctly, they lowered my daughters after she turned 22, then it will go down again at 25. Alot can depend on the type of car you have too, since it counts if it is a higher theft risk too.
