How do I get out of this payday loan mess?

Well, I was and still am in the same boat as you, I have out 9 total PDL's. I just worked through a consolidation company called T&C and so far they have been very helpful. The only thing is more than likely they will recommend you closing your account and starting a new one because otherwise they will continue to take out the "interest" charges that eat away your paycheck. Another thing I would recommend doing is stopping your direct deposit that you must have seeing as how you have all those payday loans. I would love to help you but honestly I am in the same boat as you, just a few days ahead of ya. I would recommend getting more advice from others on here who know a lot more about this situation than myself. Good luck and just remember, you've come to the right place, everyone here has helped me so much. I can actually sleep at night instead of being sick that my whole paycheck is gone before I even get to see it. Things will start looking up for you, I promise!

Hello Talitha and welcome to the forum. First off---whatever else you do, don't apply for any more loans. This just piles on more problems and places for you to deal with.
Start by telling us what stae you live in and who you have loans out with. Also would you mind explaining your statement about being scammed applying for a loan for $1100? I didn't understand that part.

Hi...Thank you, it's nice to know I am not alone. I am in the state of California. These are what I owe. ameriloan - owe $250 pd $275 so far. Paycheck Today -owe $200 pd $120 so far. Upfront payday, Advance payday, QuickCash Advance (MTE), Payday Cash Link and Authorized Payday - I owe all of them $300 and have paid $360 so far. 500 Cash Link - owe $300 pd $500 so far. GFS - owe $200 pd $350 so far. Payday One - $294.10, Ca Check Cashing - $299 and Check into Cash $225. The last three are onetime payments. CashCall - the original loan was for $2600. I have paid $199.02 for well over a year and I still owe $2300. The Scam is embarrassing to talk about because I am smarter than this, but I guess because I was desperate I applied for a loan through a place called Kennedy Lending...over the internet. They sent me some forms and I signed them. The loan was for $7500 and I was to pay 5 mos. or $1100 upfront. I did so and then was told that the would need $1100 more or I could get a refund. I asked for the refund which I am suppose to get on 4/13/07. I checked the BBB and they do not exist at the address they listed and have 20 complaints. So I am sure that money is gone and like I said it is embarrassing because I am smarter than that.

Are any of these internet PDL's? File complaints with the agency at the bottom of the quote, as at least forty companies have been banned from doing business in CA.
I think the only PDL's permitted in CA are storefront deferred deposits (you give a postdated check, they give you cash up front for a fee).

As far as cashcall, I read one poster who said that cashcall rewrote the loan. I have also read posters who state that cashcall is very inflexible. Use the built in google search, and look up cashcall for more info.

Yes. All of the PDLs listed are on the internet except Ca Check Cashing and Check into Cash. Those two are storefront.

Unfortunately most internet payday loan companies will continue to feed off your checking account with fees and the principle never goes down. You can try to call them and tell them you wish to stop the ach, and see if they will work with you but in most cases, If you want rid of these guys and be able to start a repayment plan that will take money off the principal you will have to close your checking account. This will put your loans in default. The tend to be more willing to work with you at this point. Send them all letters stopping the ach on your account, also do a revocation of voluntary wage assignment so they keep their greedy little hands out of your pay check. Once in default, most of the time the fees stop and you can work out a payment arrangement that you can afford. Tell them upfront that you have 15 loans and everybody needs paid, so if they are reasonable in their expectation of payment, you will try to get them paid off as soon as possible. You will be able to find the letters you need to write by googling them on this site. Note that this only applies to the internet loans, NOT storefront. If you have storefronts they have had a history of working with you once your payment has been rejected by your bank. Goodluck and keep us posted. If you have other questions let us know, we have all been there and are willing to help.

If you have automatic deposit of your paycheck, you could also cancel that and go to a new bank and open up an account (obviously, don't give out new bank info to PDLs). I know you said you couldn't close your account for whatever reason. Opening a new account could give you a little breathing room.

Yes. Thank you. I am going to stop my direct deposit of my paycheck tomorrow and open a new account in another bank.

Tali-just to let you know that I too had a loan out with GFSIL for 250, to date I have paid over 500 to them and they harrass me continually-do not let them intimidate you and do do do file a complaint on them with your AG because that was the only way I have gotten them to back off...

Some of them will give you a rough time, you have to stand your ground. Read through the threads to see how others have dealt with the companies that you are dealing with now. Google each name and I am sure you will find threads on them.

Hey Talitha -- obviously we all have an idea (or more) of what you are going through. I've not had as many as you, and some others out there, but I do know that I've talked honestly with one or two lenders to work out a deal in the past. Smaller payments, extensions, that kind of thing. Follow advice you've gotten up there, but try that too. Good luck.

I have a friend who has check into cash calling her home and work after she verbally told them, is there something she could send, and is there any advice on how to handle them, they came to her house even today....
