paid letter on an older debt

Was just thinking about this one. I paid off a medical debt last year, but never got a paid in full from the collection agency. After reading about some horror stories, it has made me kind of nervous, especially since I prob don't have much proof of payments. I wrote checks, but it would not be an easy task to go back & get the copies, since it took over a year to pay it off. Since I have been on this board, NOW I keep a copy of everything, but this was before I knew much. Should I request one now? Or if I get a letter from the hospital stating the account was paid, would that be enough proof to keep? thanks!!

Yes, you need to have a valid proof of the account with a zero balance. You never know if some other company tries to collect on the same account and if you fail to show the proof, they will try to intimidate you on making the payments.
